A Ghost In My PS3 - It Turns Itself On
|
I've only had this problem recently, which is why it confuses me. Usually if a machine was to have any problem, it would turn itself off to avoid overheating and the like. However, when I turn my PS3 off it turns itself back on at its leisure, the little beep a sign of it laughing in my face. So to remedy this I have begun to remove the power cord from the back after every gaming session. Is there a way to fix this, is it a common error, or something else?
I believe mine is a slim, with the 250gb HDD.

Hmm.. sounds pretty odd to me. Are you sure nobody in your house is hitting the middle(Playstation) button on the controller to turn it on(accidentally or purposefully)?

I had a computer that used to do that when it was set to Sleep, but that was usually just because of a crappy mouse. You or somebody else might be hitting the PS button on your controller. And if that's not the case, then your PS3 might have a broken part or something.

My old 60Gb did that, until I disabled remote play on it. My 40Gb hasn't done this.

Just don't do anything to annoy the ghost. Turning itself on is not a huge problem, when it starts turning itself off then you got a problem.

Do you know that hitting the PS Button will turn on the console?
If it's not that then that's strange, but removing the power cables isn't too much of a hassle.

So did Sony remove the on/off switch in the rear of the slim consoles? I ALWAYS turn off the rear switch at the end of the day. There is no reason to leave it in standby eating up power, however small the usage is.

Do you have ghostbusters CD in the PS3?
I suggest just flicking the switch off after you're done gaming rather than unplugging it.

I had a similar problem on XBox and on my PS3 (80GB original). I had lent my PS3 to my mom because I have a little bro and sis that like movies and my mom's DVD player broke. So I was watching movies on my XBox. I would shut it off and wake up with it on. It turns out I was pressing the controller button in my sleep (I keep it on my bed). Pretty much same thing happening with my PS3 but Xbox has a bigger middle button.

Maybe you have another bluetooth device in your house that is somehow turning it on as if it were a controller.

The remote play option is probably causing your PS3 to power up. When you check the box to allow the PS3 to be powered on and off over the internet it warns that the machine could be powered up from time to time on it's own.

Really? Thats just dumb. I guess I would have to unplug it all the damn time then if I owned one. No off switch on the PS3 = FAIL!
