PS3 loses digital signal? |
|
Hi - hope someone can shed light on this! My PS3 is connected to a 19" Mikomi HD telly (via HDMI cable). It's been set up like this for 2 years and occasionally i have a problem where the telly suddenly goes black, or the grey 'fuzzy' screen for a second or two, then returns back to the game. The game continues to play during this time so i have counted out it being a PS3 fault. Is the fault the television or the connection (the HDMI cable)?
Just to add to the complication, I've noticed it's only on a handful of games it happens (FIFA 10, NFS Shift, LBP) - which makes me wonder if it is the games fault? Do others have this problem with their HD telly's? It only happens now and again but can be frustrating having to quickly pause a game cuz the telly has gone crazy! Thanks

I get that! Well very similar, I don't get the grey bit. Very rarely it never comes back either. The PS3's fine, game keeps chugging along.
I had a cheap HDMI cable from GAME (bought at same time/place as the console) and it did this, with static noises too during black-screened transitions in-game. I got a 480p cable for my Wii of the same brand and it started happening with the Wii too so I thought it was the cables being cheap and crap! So I shelled out on a gold-plated Sony HDMI cable (which also happened to advertise itself as great for the PS3, though I doubt it was any better than other high-quality cables) and guess what: it didn't happen again for AGES. It still does sometimes happen though, but no where near as frequently. My TV is a 26" Sanyo HDTV, it's not the most expensive but unlike my first HD set it's not the cheapest either. Basically I think it all comes down to the quality of the equipment. If you have a cheap HDMI cable, try a dearer one. I decided to get a Sony one since they made the console too so you'd hope they'd be made for eachother in a way. Replacing your TV might be an expensive thing to do if it doesn't fix the problem. Do you use the TV for watching TV?? With which cable? And does it do it then? -------------------

Hi WireFrame - glad it's not just me! ha ha. I watch normal TV on that telly, but via Scart so it doesn't happen with that. If the problem persists (like i say, its not very often but can be frustrating) I will invest in a more expensive, quality, HDMI cable. cheers!

It's your HDMI cable. If you have one of those cheap HDMI cables, then that's the problem. It's not that it's defective, it's just that it's not protected well enough like those expensive cables that you see for around $30-$100. What's causing that is interference, and you just need to make sure that it's not near any other cables that might be sending signals. Maybe it's too close to the PS3's or your HDTV's plug outlet. Just keep the cable far away from them.
