Yellow Light :( Kinda..... |
|
Sooo,
i was listening to music on my ps3 and downloading some demos while on my laptop, So i go downstairs to answer the phone and stay down their for 5 minutes talking on the phone, Just now i come upstairs and see on my tv that there is no input (the screen is blue when it can't detect no input from the HDMI) i look at my PS3 and it has a flashing red light i push the power button on the front and it beeps, turns on, and then it power off. so i switch it off at the back, switch it back on, push power button, green light , YELLOW LIGHT for like half a second, then a red light flashes. Is this the yellow light of death? I know there are numerous threads on this, but i don't have time to go trawling through them. Is it time to give sony a call? if so, what is their UK number? Thank you ------------------- ![]()

quote Jaseyboy12Yep it YLOD i'm afraid. If your ps3 is still under warranty, give sony a call. I'm afraid i don't know their number. However if your not under warranty you'll have to pay alot of money to send it in. If you don't want to spend that much money, look around for some guys on the paper that can repair electrical stuff and have experience in fixing ps3. Since youre in the UK, i saw a clip of YLOD fixes by a guy called "gilksy". He has a guide telling you how to fix it yourself. You should consider getting in contact with him. He does have a channel on youtube. maybe he'll have his contact details on there.

Thanks for the replies.
Its a 60gb console, bought in november 2007 I called sony, told them about the problem (even after being on hold for 4 minutes) they took some details and saiid, we can send you a replacment Ps3, for £128 i told them about the "sales of goods act" in which they replied it doesn't affect them as they are the manufacturer and not the retailer. So i wrote a e-mail, with a lot of valid points explaining how disgusted i was with the service, and i even sent them pictures of where my ps3 sits as proof that it cannnot over heat as it isn't in a confined space. Later on, i will call the place of where i bought the console and demand a replacment as 20 months is no way a reasonable amount of time for a £350 Console, and the fault wasn't in any way of my fault. So yeah, if they can't offer me a 60gb console, i'll demand money back and buy a PS3 slim and a few games. My other problem is that COD5 is stuck inside the disk drive. If anybody is still interested then ill post the reply here tomorrow ------------------- ![]()

Since your returning it anyways, might as well blow up the PS3, and get your disc back...
Anyways, what is that sales of goods act? Never heard of it, I know i'm getting a little off but I really want to know what it is (plus this is only an additional question to my "blow up your ps3" comment above). ------------------- Profile|NeoHome|NowPlaying|Reviews|GuestBook ![]()

EDIT: The S.O.G.A only applies in the EU ( i think)
The Sales Of Goods Act is where, whatever product a consumer buys (In this case a PS3) then the item must be Fit for purpose As described And satisfactory quality ( which means their must be no fault at time of purchase) If the product was to break down within a reasonable time span (something less than 3 years, although it is 5 or 6 years in scotland) and the fault was of nothing to do with the customers fault then a replacment, or a repair can be issued. Regarding my case, My PS3 is 20 months old, which, for £350 is of no way a reasonable time. Plus, the YLOD is of no way a fault of my own. Which means i cannot of gotten the YLOD because i haven't dropped it, isn't in a confined space, or switching it off at the back. So in what ever state, i should either get, a replacment 60gb Console + CoD:WaW or i should get £379.99 + £35 for the game as that was the price paid before the console was broken. ------------------- ![]()

Yellow Light of Death is COMPLETELY FIXABLE. I know NOTHING about hardware or computers or anything, and just using online instuctions I fixed it myself.
THe guide you're looking for is gilsky's YLOD fix. Try to finda youtube video and just follow it step by step. EDIT: This is the video I used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_Ic1_TY-GU ------------------- ![]() TRISTAN ASHE

quote BrokenKnightsYep this is the one! Funny how jaseyboy said his COD5 disk is still in his ps3, i think the ps3 Gilksy was fixing in the clip had COD (world at war init). Mine YLOD not long ago and i manage to get mine going again with this clip. Also i gave my ps3 a thorough cleaning. Mine was heaps dirty which probably caused my ps3 to YLOD in the first place.

I don't see why everyone has such a problem getting their discs out, I got the YLOD a few weeks back and got Tiger Woods 10 out easily. And dude, if you send it to Sony, although you'll have pay a fee, they legally HAVE to give you a 60 gig model. They send you a refurbished 60 gig, and on their service request sheet there is a spot where they ask you if anything is stuck inside the console, so I'd imagine they can either give you your game back or send a replacement.
I didn't wanna *bleep* up my PS3 when I got YLOD so I said screw it and paid the $150. ------------------- ![]()
