how many controllers can the ps3 support?

im just wondering how many it can support coz CoD5 offline multiplayer wud be pretty crappy with only 4 players. plz reply back and tell me

There are only a handful of games in history that have ever permitted 8 players on the same console.

7's an odd number which has never made much sense, but a lot of multitap devices of the past also ended with support for an odd number of controllers.

This doesn't account for lan gaming.

7 Controllers though the odd number is because you can have 4 controllers and then 3 other bluetooth devices. Bluetooth devices like headset, keyboard and mouse will take up slots. It's not as random as it first may seem.

ok but wht about online, how many can tht support if ure just playing with friends, shuda specified sorry. like for CoD5

CoD 5 is only 2 player split screen, far as i'm aware of.

That's one controller for each player. If you're asking if split screen games can then be played online, then the answer is yes and no. That's up to the developer. Games on the PS2 have done this before this occured on PS3 titles like Warhawk. (IE: Rainbow Six: Lockdown).

Actually CoD5 is a 4 player split screen.

I think the usbs arent necessarily for the max amount of controllers, it just shows how many things can be plugged in to a ps3.
