Before I start let me just state that I own all 3 or 2 and a half systems. And I prefer the ps3 controller over the 360 controller, but that holds no preference on my opinions. But I have noticed that with better graphics and better future games, is the ps3 becoming the original Xbox to the ps2? The ps2 sold more and every1 had one, but the Xbox was considered the more hardcore gaming device cause of the better graphics and newer technology. Well this generation the 360 and wii has sold more but the ps3 is the better (tech wise) when it all boils down to it. And with Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, and Gran Turismo 5 all with an 09' outlook possible (GT5 maybe 10') doesn't this seem like the more die hard gamers choice? Then there's Street Fight 4, what controller/system will they prefer to play on? PS3 cause every1 knows the directional buttons are definitively better on the ps3 controller then the 360. So is 09' the year that PS3 takes hold of the hardcore/diehard gaming community?

Nah, i'm just kiddin. Who knows? Every console is a contender these days, but saying that, if any company will go out of business first, it's bound to be Sony, with their lack of money etc.

The PS3 seems to me, the tech geek's gaming console.
360 is the online/FPS gamer's console
Wii Casual and nintendo fan console. (It has some good non-casual games of course).

THey always say 'this is the year for XXXX console'. I'm sure Sony will do well enough though.

The kind of games that have released on Sony's consoles have, by majority, been teen/adult oriented. More titles, more experience in the industry. While the PS3 may be behind in its release than the other two, it's still measuring out in trend, to stick with its rep. If the 360 can continue to keep up, then great, but as far as it goes, the only one that can't be called hardcore is the Wii, and possibly DS if you want to count hand-helds.

Also, PC is ultra-mega hardcore.

If it wernt for PC's, then Xbox wouldnt be an Online/FPS gaming syste. People always talk about PS3/Xbox/Wii, but they always forgot about the PC. WIth legend games like Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Battlefield, Dawn of War, etc. If my PS3 broke, and my warrenty ran out, then I wouldnt need to worry. PC's will always keep gaming alive no matter what.

Define Hardcore.

The Ps3 is a great machine, but only because of the software. After all the software makes the hardware shine. And lets see the PS3 has a lot of great software titles. My personal thought is that the PS3 is on par of hardcore-ness as the 360. The Wii is the family orientated console.

New? PS3 and 360 have always been hardcore gaming systems.

PS3 & 360 = Hardcore "Mature" consoles
Wii = Casual & More geared toward kids/fitness. Little to no hardcore games.

I use mature because most of the games on the PS3 are mature, however I am not entirely sure about the 360, as I don't own on(though I've been contemplating whether or not I should buy one because all my friends have them). The PS3/360 are more competitive then the Wii.

I myself own mostly competitive hardcore online games;

Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty: World at War
Burnout Paradise (Maybe Competitive, it depends)
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (Not HC, but Deadlocked may have been classed as HC...)

360 and PS3 are both equally hardcore because both primarily target hardcore audience. That is a reason why Wii is doing extremely well compared to the other two. The Wii targets a completely different type of audience and has no real competition. That is why majority of the console wars leave the Wii completely out, because everyone knows that any company would prosper with the situation Nintendo finds itself in. Not dissing Nintendo, they were brilliant to target the other half of the public...

I'd agree with tallteen86 about this. The 360 seems to be all about the online and has a lot of FPS games going for it. The PS3 has the better hardware, newer technology, and more mature games for hardcore fans. I'd say its a more "geeky" system, not that that's a bad thing at all... I mean, its not like you can turn the 360 into the computer....

PC is the undisputed hardcore platform, but I would agree that PS3 is the hardcore console. Hopefully we will be pleasantly rewarded this year as PS3 owners.

Not counting a pc, yes. The 360is a good choice too, but the're still seeing red rings of death at an awful rate, even highest models. The wii, no, simply because they have much fewer games that appeal to their big fans, though they've got new fans, many "hardcore" players in my eyes have somewhat been dismembered.

Yeah, I've been hearing that they've been asking for some Hardcore games from Nintendo for quite awhile now and still haven't really gotten anything.

Animal Farm was the "hardcore game" at E3 '08 for the Wii. That will get your blood running
