How to change AV/HDMI Input on PS3?

Turn off your PS3. Now press and HOLD the 'On' button on the PS3 itself (not on the controller). It will beep and reset the connection type. I believe it will use HDMI if available, if not then it'll switch to AV.

have had same problem switching between my samsung hdtv in my bedroom and my sony bravia in the living room. ps3 was set to the samsung and the sony wouldn't pick it up. this helped a bunch, thanks alot dude.

Thanks! I was about to change my TV thinking it was broken, why the hell Is there not a separate reset button? I spent over an hour trying to work this out then saw this.

Does anyone ever buy a brand new console, then get home to sit and read the whole instruction manual to find out if sometime in the future they will need to know some secret combination of buttons to change the output settings?
We shouldn't have to go searching for this stuff, on the xbox, there is a switch on the cable. What ever extra that cost to manufacture is definitely worth saving the stupid amount of hassle this has caused people.

No, but when they do need to know how to change the output settings, that's the first place they should consult.

If your PS3 is set to the wrong setting when you turn it on, it most likely won't show up on the screen. For example, if your PS3 is set to 1080p and your trying to play it on a 1080i TV.
