PS3 40GB Recieving PS2 Compatibility |
|
The PS3 40GB version, for anyone who is interested in knowing is capable of supporting PS2 games, just not at this present time. In the future there will be a release for the PS3 40GB, that consists of a firmware update to implement PS2 compatibility.

This is just a rumor Jay. It even says that it is a rumor in the "source" you linked too.

Look at the OFFICIAL PS3 forums and see what positive people have to say. Even if this we're just a rumor, I know for a fact that Sony can incorporate emulation into a firmware update if needed. If your stuck in the past technology, you should grow up with the times

Hardly official confirmation, though promising nonetheless. I sincerely hope Sony do release the necessary firmware, as it does feel like a bit of a kick in the nuts being a loyal Sony consumer and sticking with the Playstation brand, and then subsequently being screwed over by having the option of b/c removed. Plus it would also be nice to be able to make some more space in my AV cabinet by moving the PS2.

Sure they will, me having experience on the technology realm, I know that they can and will. It's pretty bad though that other people such as Jeterocks don't believe anything, them shouldn't have an update of that magnitude than
BTW, I have contacted Sony about this, and they stated they are interested and are working on a PS2 compatibility update for the 40GB model. It's estimated to be due by the end of the year.

jay48h just because it's being discussed in the official forum, it does NOT mean that it's confirmed, true or anything. A rumour is just a rumour till Sony (or the company involved) release a press release, which they have not done currently. So regardless of 'positive remarks' on the official site, I personally don't think jeterocks is wrong in his thinking - it's just a rumour at the moment, nothing more.

quote drpunkThe technology that Sony can use to implement PS2 BC in a firmware is new technology I could care less about an update such as that, to me it's a complete waste of time and work for Sony to be working on it. But I guess for others who would really like it, it's there advantage.

quote jay84hNo, it's new software. In fact, it's not even new, they've done PS2 software emulation in the UK 60Gb Ps3's. -------------------

The idea of adding PS2 compatability via a firmware update suggests that the 40GB extra for the 80GB model is worth the $100 difference. I can get 400GB for that; so perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye; not unlike a transformer.

quote DragonMaster_DyneTo me it is I don't know about anyone else. quote Sonic FlashIf they do indeed come out with PS2 BC in a firmware release by the end of the year, what a waste it would be to pay the extra $100 for the 80GB. 4 USB ports is not like your going to use them all because you have wireless controllers that sync. Plus, the $100 extra for the 80GB could go towards a bigger HDD. I know I went and purchased a 250GB HDD for that, and admittedly so, 250GB absolutely dominates a 80GB.

Jay, shut up. Seriously.
No one has said it couldn't be done. Nor are you the only techno savy person here. I'm an ex-programmer and A+ certified. And there are plenty of other members well versed in hardware and software as well. We all understand that software emulation is a possibility. If you actually bother to read what people are saying they aren't denieing the possibility. What they ave told you over and over again is that this isn't confirmation. It is simply a rumor. We shall see if it carries any weight sooner or later. But we don't need to get overly excited about it right now. quote jay84hWrong. If you get the PS3 eye, rock band and a few friends you can easily fill all 4 ports. The guitars require one port for 2 guitars for the wireless dongle as they don't work via bluetooth. The drums need one port the mic another and PS3 eye yet one more. Now you could argue about getting a hub and a bigger HDD. But you're still talking about spending more money to get essentially the same thing. You save $100 only to turn around and spend it on upgrades. What a stupid argument. Weren't people making fun of people that bought the 360 core to save money? Pretty sure this is the same situation. ------------------- ![]() Education Forum|Books & Literature My Brute

wait! are we talking about a download for original 40gb versions or a new 40gb model that is BC? ------------------- I will spark a generation of thinkers who will question traditional thoughts until they find the absolute truth. thank you for giving me someone to prove wrong

I do hope this is possible, but likely not...
I have a 40GB, and I realised shortly after I got it that the 80GB was better in many more ways then just 40GB more space. Curse me! ------------------- ![]()
