ps3 keeps turning off on its own. - Page 3

mine keeps turning itself off..but i think its because i did not shut it down properly....just got black ops,and only add chance to play it once!!! gutted!! lol....so ile keep trying,,but i dont think its OVERHEATING because i left it turned off for over 24 hours...so i reckon its internal,,,but it just did start when i played the black ops,,,so who knows????????????

Here's my situation. Gran Turismo 5 - B-spec mode - 9 hours of tsukuba endurance. My system turns off after an X amount of time. It must happen after 4 hours of being running as I've successfully tried and completed the 4 hours endurance events with no issues at all. The thing is that I leave it running as I won't be 9 hours in front of the screen. Could this be related to overheating? my unit is located in a doorless shelf. I had it for more than one year and never had this issue (plus I don't use it that much). Any ideas? I could add a pic of the place I have it in for you to judge if this could be related to poor ventilation. Thanks!

Make sure the 3 vents are not covered. When stood up, there's a vent on top, one under the standby and eject buttons and, the one at the back that the fan blows the air out. Once they're in open space, get a hoover/vacuum and clear the vents

segaman you can't back up your data, the Playstation is dead. I think there are video tutorials on youtube that may show you how to get the disk out though.

Same thing just started happening to mine. It's about 4 years old and haven't had any problems except the occasional loud fan issue, especially on newer games. But it kinda sounds like the CPU fan/Heat-sink is not getting proper contact? I've had similar issues with an old PC of mine long ago... it would turn on then beep out and shut off soon afterward... anyway, I removed the heat sink or maybe replaced it, cant remember.... then I added some more cooling compound and put it back together and it ran fine.... Not sure what the PS3 has for a heat-sink or how hard it would be to remove, but a $6 tube of cooling compound sounds better than $150 to Sony for a $400 piece of brick. IMHO.... ? ;{=}
