From inside Sony Computer Entertainment International's Japan offices I present to you leaked information on the new 160gb Playstation 3 model that will be appearing in the near future:

As you can see the major changes to the unit are the larger hard disc drive, the inclusion of dual HDMI ports, 6 USB ports, 3 ethernet ports and the new Dualshock 3 pad. On top of that the new unit has undergone the 65nm chip reduction process which reduces heat and energy consumption and reduces manufacturing costs.

At the moment the unit is only confirmed for release in Japan. A date has not been fully specified but is expected after November.

Why in the hell does anyone need 2 HDMI outputs or THREE ethernet ports?

Either this is complete bullshit or Sony's hired even more *bleep*s to work on the PS3 for them than usual.

I assure you this is indeed true. Though if you choose not to believe me thats your own opinion. The unit has undergone full certification checks and is now confirmed for retail channels.

The unit is only confirmed for Japan at present but is expected in other territories in Q2 2008. The 20gb PS3 in Japan will be cut off and the 60gb shall receive a price cut.
This is why the 80gb PS3 wont be coming out in Japan.

It's true! Then the 360 is getting revamped with a 180gb hard drive and so on and so forth. God damn, you'd think hard drive size was an extension of the companies penises the way these two are going on if this is true.

Well Steel the difference is Sony is actually changing the hardware too. I don't know if this is real but so far every SKU released so far has had different hardware features besides the differing HDD sizes.

It's quite different than the way Microsoft is doing it.

Sony clearly isn't trying to sell their consoles based on HDD size but on hardware integration, unlike Microsoft. They're just releasing a larger HDD because they can.

True Dev, but from a consumer point of view, all they see is the bigger hard drive. The average PS3 consumer does give two craps over whether their PS3 has one or two HDMI ports, they just want to play top-of-the-line games on it.

No doubt. I can understand multiple HDMI outputs in some cases, but multiple Ethernet outputs is just *bleep*ing madness to me. That's what a router/hub is for.
