Scale from 1-10

How would you rate this game? Oh yes and you can use 2.3 and stuff like that if want. I would give the game 5.5, graphics, sound and everything is good, but camera angle is bad.

re: Scale from 1-10

alright, i'd give it a .... 9. Just a 9. The graphics are WONDERFUL y it's VERY creative. BUT the game is too complex. They should make it a little simpilar. Also, never touch the left y right triggers, it will only mess up the angles. Y you can get Ecco stuck easily, if you thrust into some rock, he can never come out. Then you drown. y that totally bombs. >_<

re: Scale from 1-10

I wrote a user review for this, but I think the final score I gave it was a little too high. The game can be just too frustrating at times. Out of 10, I'd give it about... 7.

This game is awful in 3-d and I still can't beat the introductory level.

re: Scale from 1-10

i'd give this game a 6.5-7 out of 10...

The graphics are pretty nice for one of the first games released on a next-gen console, but...

the controls r hard to master
the camera's fickle movements and behaviour annoy me
the game overall is pretty hard to master
too many bugs and glitches
the game drags on for too long (hard to keep playing it for a while)
puzzles are very difficult, not that they r hard to understand and decipher, but actually trying to complete it is a real drag (thinking back to Hanging Waters...)

so, that's what i think about it. it's an innovative game and it was a good decision to make Ecco 3-d, but the developers should have spent more time on it and taken the time to understand what the regular gaming enthusiast wants.

i remember that! we were so frustrated trying to get to the part with the puzzle without jumping out of the tubes of water and missing the next and falling to our (well, Ecco's) death...then we found that glitch, and we were like "What the heck is goin' on?!" but we were so excited cuz we thought we were going to get to the next part for once! Ecco was swimming thru the air! but then we ran out of air, as we were swimming in mid-air...weird...

hehe...tried to get back in the tube as fast as we could...

re: Scale from 1-10

Not much point in this, but it is one of my favourite games.

Graphics: 9.5/10. The light-in-water physics was absolutely brilliant. Fish animation is flawless, and other creature animation is very high quality. Yes, there are some glitches. (I had a worse one than getting stuck in scenery and drowning - I got stuck on a sand bar and couldn't drown!) I think everything else in the game more than makes up for the slight niggle.
Sound: 7/10. Everything very well timed, but maybe too much of a muchness and repetitive.
Storyline: 8/10. Nicely conceived, although you get the impression of the Realm of the Foe having been somewhat rushed.
Puzzles: 5/10. Really just a little bit too hard for the obvious target market of 10-14 year olds. First there's figuring out what you do, then there's actually doing it, itself no mean feat. The first serious puzzle, getting the Shark to yield up the Vigour crystal is almost completely impenetrable, and it's right at the outset of the game! Then there's Perpetual Motion; I've still no clear idea of what it is I've done to set the snakes on fire!
Music: 9.9/10. If only they'd looped the music properly so that it was continuous. However, the music itself is so good, so very evocative, and wonderful to listen to on its own, that I couldn't bear to take more than a tenth of a point off. Favourite piece comes in Roaring Forces after you've escaped the eel and gone through the granite wall. Don't transform straight away and leave, you can do that inside a minute, and you'll miss five minutes of musical perfection.
Overall Experience: 10/10

Overall average: 8.2/10 (everything weighted equally)

I'm more than a little surprised to find that Hanging Waters, which is the game's most sustained challenge, gets so much of the level hatred. Sure, it's a hard task to get through - but what amazing vistas! What heart-stopping beauty! And such a variety of areas and puzzles. To say nothing of the fact that water does not really hang in the air in tubes like that, but if it could, that's what it would look like and sound like!

However, such a fantastic game does have a major letdown for its final level. After the incredible challenge of the level where you have several sequential tasks to complete at extraordinary difficulty in a huge and brilliantly designed level, one is less impressed with the Hatchery, and then finally you get to the Heart of the Foe, and .... it's not that it's not difficult, it's just nothing like as impressive as a "Final Boss" for this game should be! And no music!! Why do we lose one of the best aspects of the whole game just as we reach its climax?

re: Scale from 1-10

How can you not give this game a 9.5 or higher, the music was completly kick ass, the story was great! and the levels dont take too long to beat like everyone says. The only thing that made this game not score a perfect 10 was that it didnt continue from the old story on the genesis. Otherwise, this game was awesome as hell and I cant wait for the sequel(if they make it).

re: Scale from 1-10

Hmm... I'd have to give it a 8.5/10
I REALLY like the music, and I love the story (though I wanted to be on the Clan's side sooo bad most of the time xD) but sometimes the glitches got annoying. Though there was one glitch in the first level, I got past the current, but it put me past the sharks, and I couldn't really go anywhere
