I bought it, and it rocks. The internet was the only place I could find any information on it during development. EGM did not even cover it's release, and then they turned around and gave it a bad review. This is probably the only time I have found one of their reviews to be a bunch of B.S. The game play in Deathrow is solid. Plenty of cool arenas to play in. Pretty deep, too-- lots to unlock. Once you get the play mechanics down, you're hooked. One of the best games I have played in quite some time. A.I. can get tuff--- still have not beat The Deciples yet.

yes! somebody else who has deathrow. EGM gave it a bad review, huh? that's weird. IGN gave it like a 9.3 or something like that...usually EGM is pretty good about reviews. if you think the disciples are tough, wait until you play the first blitzers at the end. they even have a pre-game stats screen that shows how many times you've played them and the most you lost by to them. i beat the game with only the dragons so far but i've unlocked a bunch of stuff too. one of the best games on the xbox easily!

Glad to see other Deathrow fans out there. You know, it seems to me the whole futuristic sports game theme just does not sell as well over here. Games like Dead Ball Zone,League of Pain, etc. seem to wind up all too quickly in the bargin section. This is actually my favorite type of game to play, followed closely by FPS.The whole Rollerball idea just really appeals to me. Unreal Tournament 2003 is getting in to the act now-- the Bombing Run play option combines scoring goals with serious weapons- very intense! I think Deathrow is one of the coolest ideas to hit a console in quite some time. If the A.I. Scores one goal too many over on me, it is so satisfying to kick the crap out of him until he is down for the count for a little while. Being able to download your own soundtrack in to the game just adds so much to the experience as well. I hope other people read this and give the game a try. Hopefully, it will develop a good cult following if nothing else.

you're right. this game deserves at least a cult following, if not a full-fledged one (hopefully resulting in good sales, warranting a sequel). i'm always complaining about the xbox not using custom soundtracks as much as they should, so i was more than happy to see the option in deathrow, considering it's the perfect game for it.

I agree with you on the comment about the soundtrack option. I would have expected it to be used more then it has been so far. To some extent,it seemed like X box got off to a slow start---the really killer titles have been slow in coming. Then again, X box is truely the new kid on the block-- no established franchises coming in to the console war. I think this quarter will more than make up for it, though. Deathrow, MechAssault,Steel Battalion,Unreal Championship--and I think Unreal has the soundtrack option, though don't hold me to it--I am not sure where I read it. Any way, what a killer line up! I think all the waiting will be worth it. X box is just beginning to really get going. It supposedly has the best version of Timesplitters 2. And of course-- there will eventually be a Halo 2! What games are you looking forward to playing?

right now i'm waiting for Halo 2 (of course), unreal championship, splinter cell, and Fable (project ego). i'm sure there's others i forgot, but those are the main ones. yeah the xbox had gotten off to a fairly slow start, but i remember the ps2, when it first was released, having practically nothing available it seemed for the longest while. i think once xbox gets rolling with some of the titles we've mentioned, it'll start to gain more and more of a following. it just recently beat the Gamecube in sales, so that's not a bad sign.

I remember the great PS2 dry spell too. Personally, I am pulling for Microsoft. It's nice to see an American company seriously competing with the Japanese big boys. There is a lot of X box bashing going on in my fair city-- some of the employees at the local game store really rag on it. The thing is, it was the same deal with the PS2 when it was getting off the ground. I forgot about Spliter Cell-- looks like a good choice. I may have been wrong about Unreal Championship having a soundtrack option. I was reading up on it during development at the same time I was keeping an eye on Deathrow-- I may have got the two confused. Personally, I don't really care which company sells the most systems and "wins" the console wars. I just want great games. I usually end up trading in systems to try another one for a while any way, so I can play different games. Right now I have an X Box and PS2--had a Game Cube for a while, but got bored and traded it in. I liked a few of the titles Game Cube had, but in the end it did not have enough games I wanted to play. With the next Perfect Dark game supposedly heading toward X Box, I really had no reason to keep it. Are you going to go on-line with X box LIVE?

mcdoogle, why are you bothered by anything indrid cold and i are talking about? it's not as though you came into this discussion and had anything to say about deathrow yourself...all you did was show up and cry. if it's so important to you, why not just change the subject?

I appreciate the comment,Fugazithreat. Perhaps I did get off track a little. Certainly did not intent to offend our little friend mcdoogle--perhaps he will share more of his wisdom with us when he returns from his evening romp on the porn sites... Any way, the folks at our local game store told me they have not had any more copies of Deathrow come in since I bought my copy. Hope that is not a bad sign. I really talked the game up with the manager at Gamestop--told her it was excellent. Just got done playing the Demons in their level-- very cool arena. Sort of like playing Blitz in a doom-inspired level.

yeah, i bought my copy of deathrow at gamestop and there were 5 people there who reserved it before me. unfortunately for them, gamestop only received 2 copies and i happened to be there first, so there was 1 other lucky person and 4 angry people left over with nothing. some other shops i've been to never ordered any copies of deathrow at all. i've only beat the game with the black dragons so far, but right now i'm trying to win with the demons. i've still got a bunch of stuff to unlock though. hey mcdoogle are you satisfied (porn romp..heh).

Interesting that there are not that many copies floating around. I guess it just keeps coming back that the futuristic sport thing does not do well over here. To me,I could not see how this game could miss. The fact that you use a disk instead of a ball gives it a nice twist. I always wanted to play Disks Of Tron-- a classic arcade game, but never got the chance. I played a clone game supposedly similar to it, and it was pretty fun. Deathrow is like a mix of Rollerball and Disks Of Tron, a great combination. This is one of those titles that you pull out to play when friends come over, and they end up having such a good time they wonder why they never even heard of it.

I was suprised to find a used copy of DT at Gamestop yesterday. I read a good review about it so I went ahead and bought it. It's pretty addicting so far. I desperately want to try playing against a human opponent to see how the gameplay works when youre not playing with AI. The concept of this game is great. Think about it. Why try and simulate actual sports games when you could come up with your own game that is not limited to certain constraints? The gameplay is designed specifically for video games. I would like to see more of these imaginary sport games come out. Anybody ever play Super Dodgeball for NES? Same type of game, tons of fun, good competative multiplayer with lots of "HA, eat shit!" type moments.

Anyway, Deathrow is a great game, and should be voted Sleeper game of 2002. Games like Deathrow are why I bought an XBOX in the first place, over a PS2 and GC - a solid, original game that is only on XBOX, and which shows off some of the XBOX's muscle. I had read about it prior to release, and I bought a copy the day after it came out. When the game first came out, it was a little tough to get a copy. The manager at my local EB told me that he had sold out of them, and that the game looked like it would be a real sleeper. Luckily, I found a copy at GameStop, and I'm glad I bought it. Unfortunately, I've noticed recently a lot of copies of Deathrow in the used sections at video game stores. I hope it's not because people don't like the game, although I always thought the game would only appeal to a limited crowd anyway. [Mod Edit] Removed comment.
