The AE86 eh? Well by what you've stated you're suffering through the stock engine life, I suggest trying to find the right shift point on the car 6500 er so if I remember right and doing the following.

When racing akagi downhill you have a few key points to extend a lead.

When you start the race you want to exit the first hard hairpin curve at about 132-138km/h if you can, usually you can do this by taking an outside line and chop the whole corner in one swoop. You generally are in 5th gear when you hit this point so downshifting is a must.

Next keep the gas on through the next turn, it looks sharp but you can carry a lot of speed through it and leave the computer behind, next comes another turn and a hairpin, for this you want to let off and try to maintain a decent speed, generally the car smacks the wall and lots of speed is lost. After that another hairpin is there but you can come to the outside and cut that corner as well to take even more ground away from the computer, then you go through a quick switchback section to a hairpin, drive the car in and swoop through the hairpin, another hairpin follows right after with the checkpoint, you can take this pretty fast and many RX7 users manage to grip the outside for some fast exit speeds.

Things after that go on a short swirve section to a hard right, entry should be pretty fast in 5th, throw down into 4th gear while on the outside and cut in again, you should leave at about 145+. Take the switchbacks that come up afterwards throw the car into 3rd around the hairpin avoid hitting walls put it back into 4th and get going, the computer generally tries to make up ground here.

The next sections are fairly easy. The key to akagi is to take the outside of the corner and chop the middle while keeping as much speed as possible. If you do that through the rest of the turns you should be fine.

I'll play through Akina right now and try to refresh myself on Akina and what points are key to winning. >_< It's been a while since I checked it out.

I am sad to say that no arcades around here have any of the Initial D games.

I used to be a big fan of the series a few years back and I am sure I would enjoy the game but of course no one has it.

The only point where this really comes into play is Akina and even at that with a tough opponent they'll just hit your car to knock you out of their way. Things to watch out for are when they're tailgating two key things get messed up, 1. the steering resistance, 2. often the opponent uses the forward momentum to shove you off of your corner entry line.

While the game focuses on drift the issue becomes the efficiency of drift in the game, I love my cappucino because of the great drift ability but when I need to beat the computer in a match I'm trying to hold the fastest line possible. This is why you don't read much about drifting in the actual game, it's just not as fast and often it can cause problems since a few hits on the wall and they're right on you again.

The PS2 Special Stage is a good game, but as I've found out from when V.3 first arrived is that the braking between SS and V.3 is a key factor. In SS V.2 and V.1 the braking is much more forgiving, (integra addicts could actually ride the brakes through the corners) in V.3 the braking is the essential focus, knowing when to let off the gas and use the brake and find the perfect release point. Funny enough they set it up just like the story goes in 4th stage of the anime and the later chapters of the manga. As it goes in the series the focus isn't so much on how long you can leave it out there but how fast Takumei and Keisuke can drive their FR cars against the various other classes of cars as the HP increases and the skill jumps dramatically.

I know most of this is rambling but it should help clear things up in regard to dropping some faster times.

In terms of getting more drift on your tracks, enable the rain in time attack or beat the opponent and race them again, you should be able to break traction much easier.

The Celica isn't the ideal car but it does perform pretty decent. Your best times will most likely be found when taking on Akina uphill or downhill. Might see some nice performance on Usui as well.

As far as Happo and Iro go you'll probably hit some troubles though. On Myogi you'll most likely face problems keeping up with high top end cars like the RX7 and Skyline.

Could be worse, could be the EG6 in version 1 where the car was by far the worst in terms of balance.

From the dead...

Played IDAS for the first time in ages (not including playing at Pier 39 in SF a couple weeks ago) at the Sunnyvale Golfland. Had so much fun.

They had IDAS3 and IDAS4 and I got new cards for both of them; both Ryosuke's FC, and Opt.A for the IDAS3 card. The IDAS4 card was pretty expensive, though.

I had so much fun playing both versions, and I cleared all the way up to Akagi's 2nd battle in IDAS3, and beat Kenji at Myogi and Iketani at Akina on IDAS4. It was great getting used to the game again.

Oh wow. Used to play this game since version 1. I stopped when I found out that you couldn't transfer data from version 3 to 4. But I do still have quite a few cards that I used since the beginning. Have over 4 million points on my version 3 Trueno. It was a beast on version 1, kind of lacked in version 2 since the overall best car was the Integra and was a beast again in version 3. Used to love this game so much.
