Blue Mage

Okay inspired by tRaViS_p0w3ll's little chat about Blue Mages from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

It is a Battlemage type class and needs the skills to match this, so advice on which Major Skills to use, which Attributes to favourate and what specialization to choose would be nice.

Every creature in the game will be given there own spell or effect that must be gained by either being hit by them or any spells they actually possess or by just killing them, you must not cast the spell before fighting the creature.

Okay I will edit this post depending on what ideas I get from everyone, which is why I left room where the stats and spells blank, so you can come up with the most outlandish spells imaginable.

I can come up with a few ideas, but the reason I'm leaving everything blank to start with is so other members can get involved and post their own ideas for Blue Mage stats and spells.

Conjuration
Destruction
Illusion
Blade
Light Armor
Restoration
Anything for the 7th really, perhaps Acrobatics, Block, Alchemy or Alteration

The point is for people to post their ideas for the build of an Oblivion version of the Final Fantasy Blue Mage and what kind of custom spells each creature allows a Blue Mage player to cast, it require at least some RPing.

I think Blade as a Major Skill because in Final Fantasy they used swords, it's just the other skills I'm wondering about, okay I'll edit our sugestions for Major skills into the first post BP, since it's a mage it'll probably be Magic specialization huh?

Blue Mages have to ability to learn enemy monsters special abilities and use them as spells, which is why I've list all the creatures in the game under the spell list, they're also quite good at melee combat for a mage using Sabers as their weapons, sabers are blade so, you got that suggestion right.

For the spells just look at each creature and use your imagination and please let me know wether the creatures should have a custom spell or a spell effect registered to them.

It's a RP thread, well RP Character Creation, adn it's a good idea, so shush :>

Race: Breton
Gender: M
Class: Blue Mage
Attributes: INT/STR or WIL/STR
Specialization: Magic
Majors: Conjuration, Blade, Acrobatics, Sneak, Illusion/Mysticsm, Alchemy/Alteration, Filler
  • Conjuration, obviously he needs to be able to use the power sof animals, summoning them = perfect.
  • Blade, if you've ever played FF Tactics, the first weapon you need to start a Blue Mage, is a "Blue Sabre" that has a "Learning" Teach. I also suggest using the Steel Cutlass as your main weapon and enchanted it, and renaming it Blue Sabre. Enchantments are up to you but I'd definately put Soul Trap on there.
  • Acrobatics, I also think of a Spanish Fencer when I see Blue Mages on FF, so I think speed should be a top priority.
  • Sneak, mainly for a balenced build to get AGI up, since this also increases speed/reaction time.
  • Illusion, for a helping hand in Sneak. Aswell as Paralyze, Charm, etc. Because Blue Mages, not only have the animals powers(strentghs) they know their weaknesses.
  • Alchemy, I think you shouldn't spoil an animal, use it to it's full potential, it's also "nature-ish" thought it went well.
  • Last Major I'm unsure of. I'd could be Speechcraft to understand people as good as you do animals. Could be Heavy Armor, if you want to "tank" or Light if you want to keep that fast factor. But in FF Blue Mages wear Robes, so again, not sure. You can decide :>
First, since I rarely enchant/spellmake, Spells CAN HAVE multiple effects right? Like Fire Damage 5pt, Shock Damage 5pt, I think they can since I made a spell that did like 30pt of each Element, and named it Elemental Rage. Anywho on to the Spells for your Blue Mage :]

  • Will-O-Wisp = Drain Magic/Health, 30pt/5sec. (Will Of The Wisp)
  • Ghost = Frost Damage 10pt (Ghost Grasp)
  • Wolf = Demorilize 50sec (Wolf Whistle)

  • Flame Andronach = Fire Damage 50pt (Flame Tempest)

Exactly, well sort of, like I mentioned in my second post it requires a bit of RPing (Role Playing) before using their abilities fight them, either get hit by their special attack and kill them or if they don't cast anything just outright kill them.

Then create a custom spell, or allow yourself to use a certain spell effect in custom spells.

Let's make as many of the spells for this Blue Mage as useful as possible, as soon as we get the first complete build up I'd like someone else to help playtest the build, but if you like the idea of playing as a Blue Mage you'll be doing that anyway.

It's hard to think of spells for the creatures that don't fight with a weapon or magic. Perhaps for some of the big scary creatures like Minotaurs you could have a "terrify" spell. Can't think of the proper name for it but the one that makes enemies less willing to attack. I think there's one called Fearful Gaze or something.

I like the look of the spells so far, but I'd like to see with them the delivery method.

Should Umaril be on the creature list as well? I mentioned I may add him if you guys think I should.

The Gatekeeper deserves a powerful spell, I'm thinking my Paralysis spell I keep talking about, oh if I add Umaril I'll have to add Jigsaw won't I?

If your having the Gatekeeper, then yes, have Umaril. As for Jigsaw, who the hell is that, unless you mean Jggy.
You could enchant their weapons, but the Gatekeeper doesn't have a weapon, unless you count the Arrows :<


New Spells:
  • Mountain Lion = Drain Health/Fatigue 30pts 5sec (Swift Swipe)
  • Orge = Fortify STR 30pt 30sec (Ogre's Support)
  • Zombie = Absorb Health 20pt/10sec (Zombie's Touch)
  • Lich = Frost Damage 20pt/Absorb Health 20pt/20sec (Lich Life)

Okay so the bosses from KOTN and SI shall be added, both Umaril and Jigsaw (Jygggalsdlaaggaadad)(Jygsalad)(Jygg.. ah screw it I can't spell his name right) oh right it says on the uesp Jyggalag.

Special spells and effect locks only, adding special enchantments to a sword is the skill of a Mystic Knight/Spellblade (FFV) and Gladiator (FFTA), though it would be nice to have a function that allowed us to temporarily enchant our swords.

It's only right with Conjuration being a Major Skill that we have at least one Summon spell as a creature spell, maybe a full suit of Bound Armour with Bound Weapon?


BTW I personally think the Wolf spell should have the Rally effect, but will leave it out here as a vote, at least seven users must agree with any change to a spell before I make it happen, otherwise it will not be implemented.
