This game sucked. Let me say that again:sucked sucked sucked. I have been a huge fan of all of Romero's movies for years now, and as far as games go the Resident Evil series (just about all of them) are my favorite games ever, and I've been playing video games since the early 80's. I've had a Playstation 2 since it came out and bought a Gamecube just to play RE:remake and 0 (which was well worth it, not to mention Eternal Darkness and Metroid Prime). There hadn't been any games exclusively for the Xbox that would make me buy it until this one (everyone raved about Halo, but I could always play that at someone else's place as it's really a multiplayer game anyways). I bought a used Xbox and Land of the Dead as soon as it came out. I was extremely excited to finally play a game based directly on Romereo's movie(s).
What I got was a disappointing piece of crap. I played the game for a while, hoping that it would get better. All I got was a crappy first person shooter that was about as advanced as the first Doom. The graphics were terrible, the controls were clumsy, the zombies were boring and repetitive (from about the first three minutes on) and the plot was not even enough to keep me interested in playing just to find out what happened next.
Like I said before, I really wanted to like this game. I realize that RE pretty much cornered (and mastered) the market on zombie games, but I still thought this would have something to offer. Unfortuatly it didn't, and even if this game had been released in 1997(which is what the game felt like, even though it was released three days ago, due to its terrible graphics and tired first person shooter structure)I would still would wonder if it would have made much of an impression even back then.
Go ahead and try it out if you absolutely have to satisfy your curiosity, but try to rent it if you can. I'm going back to the store tomorrow to return it and the Xbox. This game was so bad I don't even care if I only get five dollars credit for it (I should have known when the game was only 29.99 brand new) as long as I get rid of it. On a scale from 1-5 stars (5 being the highest) I'd give this game a 1/2 star.
