Came through today, so I've got the game for a week, will whack it on a bit later. I must say the prospect of playing in the lower leagues is one that interests me.

Took the game back today having rented it for 2 weeks, and only playing it for about 3 days during those 2 weeks. I liked how the game is a tad slower, in comparison to PES, meaning a slicker passing game can be implemented, which I prefer. Sometimes in PES your players don't position themselves as they want you to, whereas there's no such problem in FIFA.
I like the stadiums and the commentary is excellent, also the background noise in the stadiums is great too.
However, how anyone can compare this game to PES is beyond me. Even with licenses, the kits look pathetic on FIFA, and I'd much rather suggest paying the extra £10 and download an option file for PES with perfect kits than buy FIFA. All my kits on PES look far better than the ones on FIFA.
PES is definitely the better game, although FIFA is perhaps a more complete game. It's absolutely brilliant that lower league fans can play as their teams in the game, and I really like the Manager mode, which is similar to the excellent Franchise mode in Madden NFL 06, something that PES doesn't have. I love playing a realistic Premiership with promotion/relegation, something unfortunately PES doesn't have.
The shop is blatantly robbed off PES, but is a great incentive. I like unlocking things as videos, and the first time I'd seen anything like it was in the game Rugby League 1, which was a great feature. Unfortunately, I didnt have time to get any of the videos, but the principle is excellent. I also loved the Retro section, I think I actually played more games of FIFA 94 than on FIFA 06!!
Many PES fans blatantly slag off FIFA without playing it, but I now know PES is better. However, I can see why FIFA is hugely successful, especially amongst lower league fans. It has pretty much everything you'd want in a game, it's just a shame certain features of the actual gameplay let it down, such as crossing and shooting, which are both very unrealistic. But FIFA is a good game, and I even considered buying it at one stage because I loved the Manager game mode and the lower league teams.
When I was younger, it didnt used to be Christmas without the latest instalment of the FIFA series, and I owned every single one from 1994 all the way through to 2003 on various different consoles. I think the target audience for FIFA is younger people, because I think as people get in to their late teens, they start to appreciate the fine art of football, which is excellent presented in PES. That doesn't mean to say that older teens can't enjoy FIFA, it just means PES is probably their number one choice, as it is for me.
Thanks for reading, hope I've been impartial enough, and I hope you appreciate I've taken the time out to play FIFA, and I was a true fan for many years before switching to PES. Any questions or comments will be well received

They are to start off with yes, but when you download a perfect option file for PES, FIFA doesn't even come close. They don't even have the Nike tick on United's shirt for example on FIFA.

Well I finally got the game this week. Well into my first season of manager mode.
It's the best FIFA on PS2 so far definitely. Went on 05 briefly last night and it feels quite a lot inferior to 06. The big area where the gameplay has improved is in the lead up to goals. You can't just run past opponents anymore. It has to be a good through ball or a slick passing manouvere. Speaking of through balls, a couple of times when i've done a chip ball (L1+Triangle), the opposition has handballed. It's in the game! Good to see save replay aswell although there is much potential still in that area. For the first time playing FIFA, I actually found amateur difficulty a struggle at first. No 10-0's. 2-0 was a good win for me. Can't see much improvement in shooting and keeping although long range goals are seldom in the game. Certainly makes you feel more happy when you see one fly in. The one dissappointment for me is set-pieces. You have no options really for them. I thought we had left the big red arrow behind a few years ago. For FK's, it's just aimless. You don't even have an arrow. It's almost like EA forgot about this part of the game. As for other features, things have improved greatly. The fanshop is terrific. Not knicked off PES btw Ronaldo77. It's the other way round. The scenario challenges are terrific. Very addictive but i've only completed 10 or so so far.
Manager mode is tons better. Great to see how much more depth they have put in to it with fan support, ticket prices etc. Nearly got sacked through choosing T-Mobile as a sponsor. Lucky I won the League Cup because they don't give you enough money per game. Offloading a few players helped significantly aswell. I could go on, but it's a ramble as it is. Great game.
