iPod for Christmas

There's only a while to go 'till Christmas and I have my mind on one of the 8GB 2nd generation iPod nanos. Here in Australia, they cost $380. However, for the same price, I could get a 30GB video iPod. I'm tempted to the video playing capabilities of the iPod video, as well as the bigger storage space. The nano is way slimmer and lighter. Should I compensate weight for capacity?

I would get the 30GB video for myself but that's because I got a lot of photos, videos, and music I could put on there. If you don't have that much stuff and like the look of the nano better then go for it.

I would get a Microsoft Zune.

I have a 4GB first gen nano. I got the nano because it was small, and I wanted the LCD screen. I carry it around in my pocket all the time, and it takes up less room then my cell phone. to me, the video ipod is just too big to carry around in my pocket all day, along with a cell phone, keys, and other junk.

If your going to frequently watch videos, and have the room (like plenty of room in your pocket to carry it around), then get it. if you just want to listen to music (like me), and want something small, then go with the nano.

Reasons why I chose the nano over the video ipod:
Size. I didnt want a big bulky ipod in my pocket; I would rather have a smaller ipod.
battery life: I've heard video ipods dont get very much battery life. I think my friend only gets 4 hours of it his. I get about 12.
all I'm going to use it for it listen to music, so I dont need an ipod that will play videos when I wont use that feature often.
I wanted the LCD screen so I knew what I was listening to, thats why I didnt get the shuffle.

I wish I could get Zune, it also has wifi.

But to the topic, My 30Gb gets close to 14 hrs battery life, its the first ones they made, I got it last December, and I don't often watch videos on it. But the larger screen is a plus, as well as the fact that I listen to songs in the thousands. I need the storage space. If I went with a Nano, Id easily need the 8GB one, and I'm almost past the 2000 song limit.

Its all about what you need. If your a music freak like me, you will want the storage space(plus I can use my iPod as a storage drive, and carry around ISO files, or zips or large obtruse files, and its amazing when I need to reformat my PC.

But for watching videos, my battery life is 2 hours at best, however, thats with regular mp4 videos from various places. Coming from iTunes, videos seem to use a LOT less batter life. So if you get them from iTunes, I don't know what it is about the files, but they consume a lot less battery.

The Zune and the iPod 30Gb are the same price. Id go for the Zune. By far.
