iTunes whowing incorrect iPod capacity

Hi there

I just got a brand new 2GB iPod Nano for my birthday, and Im trying to get it all set up, however having a few 'unusual' problems.

When I connect to my pc with the latest version of iTunes it says the capacity is 228.62GB...this is of course WAY wrong. I added songs to it thinking it was just a glitch but although they appear in the iTunes interface, theyre not on the iPod.

To add to my confusion when I plug the iPod into a friends mac laptop it works!! Adding songs is no problem but then when I re-attach to my pc it shows the OLD songs, ie what I thought id added in the first place.

Sorry for the long query...Ive tried uninstalling iTunes and then reinstalling but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - my birthday was on Sunday and Ive not been able to use my present yet!!

ps, when I first plugged the iPod in, it didnt ask me to install any further software, I trust that this should be the case..?

Info: Dell Dimension/WinXP SP2/ iTunes 6 and 7 with iPod Nano (first series) 1GB.

The iPod has an actual capacity of 897 MB but the iTunes shows it as over 11.04 GB with 2.39 GB free. i restored to factory settings and had same thing. I then uninstalled the iPod software from the computer, reinstalled the iPod software, restored the iPod, and sync. It will sync correctly with the playlist I created for the iPod on iTunes and for the first couple times iTunes will show the correct capacity. Then it will return to the 11.04 GB showing with the incorrect music listing. Ideas?
