Level-5 has just announced a new fantasy RPG named Wonder Flick, of all titles. Don't get too excited yet, as Wonder Flick is coined as a "1000-hour" RPG, which implies a mobile nature that eats the player's soul as opposed to creating any meaningful experience. However, with music from none other than Nobuo Uematsu and availability on a myriad of platforms (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, iOS, and Android) Wonder Flick will be difficult not to try.
I don't think there are more beautiful words in existence than, "Level-5 announced an RPG!" Yet as the trailer shows Wonder Flick is not the same type of RPG most of us would likely prefer. Sure, there's a Dragon Quest-esque visual style, but from there it seems to be a mix of Bejeweled combat and goofy mobile mini-games. Still, it's Level-5. They wouldn't do us any wrong, would they?
Wonder Flick will launch in November on mobile platforms and is planned for release in 2014 on consoles. Wonder Flick is currently only announced for Japanese territories. It's rather a toss-up as to whether the game will be localized for worldwide distribution considering the type of game it seems -- a sort of awkward mobile title that western audiences have shown not to love. Yet with the region-free nature of the XONE and the PS4, localization may not be necessary. Still, considering the quality of the game... ah, time will tell.
