To celebrate the Carmageddon's iOS launch, the mobile version is free for a day off the App Store. Stainless Games, the studio behind the original Carmageddon, is giving prospective players to grab the game for free as a way of thanking the community for backing the port's Kickstarter.
Starting tomorrow, the price will go from zero to $1.99 USD, which is still a discounted figure. The low price tag will stick for a limited time, before Carmageddon iOS is bumped up to its currently-unknown standard price.
15 years ago, the franchise introduced gamers to the joys of virtual vehicular violence. At the time, several regions actually banned the game due to the violent content, while others allowed censored versions for sale. In the UK, civilians were changed to zombies, who exploded in green blood rather than actual red blood.
The iOS port, on the other hand, how a 12+ rating, worldwide. Stainless CEO and co-founder Patrick Buckland stated rather aptly, "How times have changed!"
An Android version is currently in development and will be released either later this year or early 2013.
