Question on syncing iPod to iTunes

Transferring purchases will only transfer the legal purchases you made off of the iTunes store. All your apps, music, and the such will be transferred. Pictures will not so you will have to transfer those manually.

For things that weren't downloaded via the iTunes store (IE torrents, other P2P programs , other online stores), you will have to transfer them manually using a program.

There's many programs to transfer all your music and the like from your iPod Touch. I don't remember the one I used to use so I will leave you with some:

To the second question, yes, just drag and drop and make sure iTunes is organizing your media library for it to organize your library both internally and in iTunes.

When I connect my iPhone or iPod Touch to my computer, I see this:



When you open it you see an icon that looks like a hard drive and inside that icon there's a folder called "DCIM" that has two folders with cryptic names. They hold your videos and your photos respectively. You can copy and paste them to your computer from there. Any computer should be able to detect the phone as an external device.

For your second question, yep, drag everything to iTunes but make sure you let iTunes manage your media folder first (File > Preferences > "Advanced" tab. Mark the checkbox that says "Keep iTunes Media Folder organized"). So whenever you drop your songs to iTunes, iTunes will sort them automatically (IF they have the correct metadata, so make sure you have an OCD for music organization like ProudLoz or me. ).

For your last question, sorry, I messed up, that option is only available for other iPods that are not the iPod touch.

There was a thread in this forum that had links to recovery software. I got a wonderful program from it once that was free and easy to use. Give me two seconds to try to find it...

EDIT: There we go. Found the thread. The link to the program I used to use is broken, BUT, I got a working link. Download Sharepod to transfer all your music since you can't use the iPod Touch as a drive.

Alright, so I have all my photos stored on my PC, and everything is all good to put them back when I sync. There was not a folder for videos, but I only had one video anyways, and I'm fine with loosing it.

All the old music is back on iTunes, which is awesome, because a lot of the songs I really liked XD

Downloading Sharepod now, will edit in the results here when it's done and such. Would it happen to work for Apps as well?

Your apps should have been transferred when you did transfer purchases.
If they didn't, you will be able to download them again for free. I believe there is a page in iTunes somewhere that shows you available downloads that you don't have in your computer yet.

Roy Sharepod should do the trick. I have used it to recover songs from iPod classics, iPod Touches, and even an iPhone 3G. I think it's able to recover anything from any iDevice.
