re: Modding Lego Rock Raiders

I am going to have to rewrite most of the code for the level editor to hopefully solve a problem when reading the files. The re-write should take only an hour but I thought I'd let you know. If your dieing to see what the progress is I have provided a new screenshot below. It should be pretty easy to figure out what each block means without a added legend.

The displays everything except where the plain crystals are(I was lazy and didn't add it before I took the screenie ) The red blocks mean that it is an undiscovered tunnel. The blue blocks are ore/crystal seams.

Enjoy,
gmjab

My guess is one of them is a recharge seam.

I'm working on getting the terrain editing done first then I'll focus on structures for the map. The map editor editor doesn't have the ability to create the levels just yet. I can only read them. Exporting of levels will be the next thing I work on before releasing the BETA. That way you can atleast test the editor and edit some levels and possibly make new ones.

Yes, the one with lots of ores on them is a ore seam and the one with little crytsals on them is a crystal seam. The other one with the big ore pic is actually an ore seam however there is also additional ore there(if you get what I mean).

Thanks a lot! Yes I've noticed that this forum has moved to the top when you search for "Lego Rock Raiders Pc Mod". Nice to see new people are finding out about the new advancement with this game.

Side Note: I will be opening a website called "Lego Rock Raiders United" to celebrate the release of the beta level editor. On the website I plan to allow people to post mods for the game and include it's own forum. If you have any suggestions for the site please tell me.

re: Modding Lego Rock Raiders

sorry for going a little of-topic but you wont be hearing from me for a while as I'm going to Germany on Wednesday and return 6 days after. now going back on-topic I have found out that you can't make vehicles carry more than 6 objects or the game will crash and also found out that if you make the tunnel transporter be able to carry objects e.g. ore the ore stays in place until its dropped. I also found out that you can change the texture set of any level you like with out needing to open a single level file. only the lego.cfg

P.S. I like the idea about the website

That sounds excellent, gmjab! The website for the release certainly sounds like a good idea. I'd be happy to advertise on my website for you (indigobanana.com) when its up and running!

Ok cool, I'll talk to you when you get back(The BETA might be out by the time you return). Thanks for that information. I plan for the website to begin fairly basic just plain html for now. Most of the discussion and stuff will happen on the forum. But do plan to upgrade the site to allow users to register and post stuff etc... later on. The level editor is my first priority at the moment.

Thanks Jamie that would be excellent.

Also an update on the editor…
I’ve made good progress since yesterday. I’ve finished the reader re-write which solved the problem I was having which was rendering the levels slightly wrong. I’ve also added the ability to read where the crystals are (as well as how many are in that location) and the ability to read water. You can see it in the new screen below. I’m now going to work on the exporting of the map files which is a little more difficult. When this is complete I’ll be releasing the first BETA.

^ Thats the Search n' Rescue level.

The website is a very good idea, when it's up and running I'll link to it from my site, and I'll bring it it the attention of some Lego bloggers, maybe we can get the Lego community to catch on.

Here is how my graphics mod is comming so far, I've been working on it all week. I'm almost done with the rock levels, though the floor texture is giving me some grief.

All textures, except the originals and their derivatives of course, were made from scratch by me.

Sweet, that should bring in more people. That texture mod is looking awesome. The walls look good but I have to agree with you about the floor. It might look better if you use a dirt(brown) colour instead of a gray on the floor.

The exporting of map files is about 50% complete. It has been going really well until I hit another problem... when I have water in the levels I create the legomen walk between the water and the wall and sometimes they walk over the entire wall!! I haven't come up with a solution just yet but with some more testing I should solve it...

EDIT: I think I fixed it...

The screenshots are really looking amazing! Can't wait to grab the beta. Are the small squares in the level editor small bitmap images?? It would be really cool if you could have a radar view like within rock raiders as well! (might be easier to identify what each square is)

Keep up the great work!!
