re: Modding Lego Rock Raiders

Wow it's odd that things are starting to fire up just now huh? what is it? 9 years since it came out?

Anyway things are looking good but for all this time I have wondered about music in LRR where are the files? they aren't in the .WAD archives so I bet they are in some weird archive that streams from the disc? also has it ever happened to ypu that in some computers or certain versions of the LRR cd the music didn't work? (I have just bought a new computer with vista and the music does work whereas in xp on my old laptop it didn't). Anyway does anyone know where to get the music?

re: Modding Lego Rock Raiders

Rock on RR, Yes I've seen the help file also. There is also interface elements of the editor in the LegoRR0.wad file also. Additionally there are 3 test levels. I think they made the editor for the game creators to help them make the levels fast. But when the released it they removed the editor. However, there could be some sort of combination of keys you have to press to get into the level editor.

Yes I'm sure you can change the level goals. So, you've turn debug keys on but they don't work? is that what you mean? if so, maybe they are different keys in the German version... I'd say, just hold down [CTRL] and try all the keys on your keyboard to see if anything happens.

Also I have great news about level editing. I have made an application to read a map files in LRR. It’s very basic and only converts it to text at the moment. LRR has a few map files to make up 1 level in the game and each file has its own role. Currently my program only reads 1 of these files. For proof, here is a screenshot on which I’ve added a legend. This is the map of “The Path to Power”. Each character represents 1 block on the level.

Gan Xodos, I'll have a look into that music problem. I to have noticed that the music doesn't always play.

How about were the energy crystals and ore are located? From the looks of things, that data is stored somewhere else.

Yes they are stored in a different file. The program will also load these files to.

re: Modding Lego Rock Raiders

Can you post the tool PLZ
and can you change the things e.g. water and Undiscoverd caves? and cool news I have made it possible to:
Do debugKeys
Get the Tunel Transporter
and I can add, remove and move buildings, Rock Raiders .etc and I can also change the properties of the buildings and vehicles
so i have made a map of level 19 (soz I don't know the English name) in Microsoft excel and it got the co-ordinates of the base and soundings e.g. the undiscovered cave some where at the bottom of the map so how cool is that?

Soz for double post but I made a spelling mistake when I first typed it in (I written TREU instead of TRUE LOL)
and I feel like making a tut on that i found out like making a hidden base in level 19 and get to make the tunnel transporter
and add the map (once I made it English LOL. Its in German LOL!!!)

So who wants that tut???

re: Modding Lego Rock Raiders

The level tool isn't finished just yet so you will have to wait a bit longer before I release a BETA. And yes, you will be able to make your own undiscovered tunnels and add or remove water.

Good to hear you got the debug keys working! I have just checked out your tutorial, nice work!

EDIT: Also great news regarding the level editor. It now reads the location of crystals and ores as well as undiscovered tunnels. I have begun make it into a visual reader and soon I'll be working on exporting of the maps. I'll post screens soon.

re: Modding Lego Rock Raiders

I'm having a problem with the WAD builder, the path for the rock raiders folder in Vista 64 bit is C:\Program Files (x86)\LEGO Media\Games\Rock Raiders\ This causes an Unhandled Exception in the program because it's looking for the folder under C:\Program Files\LEGO Media\Games\Rock Raiders\

Any ideas how I might work around this? And I don't know if the problem is unique to Vista 64 bit, or if every version of Vista has this problem.

re: Modding Lego Rock Raiders

I found a work around.

For any one with a similar problem, I simply created a directory in the place the WAD builder was trying to access, put my files there, built the WAD, then moved the finished WAD file back to the Rock Raiders game folder.

Here is a Screenshot of my first mod:

That is indeed pink ice! I hope to try more in way of graphics, this was just a test.

re: Modding Lego Rock Raiders

I had some how the same problem as you Ben. but mine was worse. as you may know in a German computer there is J:/ instead of C:/ and Programme instead of Progam files.
so i had to change the tool to try and find J:/ instead of C:/.
then i had to make the rest of the files.

re: Modding Lego Rock Raiders

Nice! Pink ice... but I don't think I'll use that...lol. I think he woulkd have since he modded the game to get the Helicopter.

Progress on the level editor is going well but I've hit a little road bump that I will hopefully figure out quickly. I've been turn it into a actual visual editor. I'll post the new screen soon. Don't worry, the BETA will be out when it's in a proper usable form.
