I really liked the command system in Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30. Does anyone know if the command system is going to be changed, trashed, or remade altogether? I hope they keep the old one and tweak it a bit. Some of the changes I would like to see are:
1. Ability to put each soldier into a team you choose (such as putting soldiers armed with BARs on the fire team and soldiers armed with M1 Garands on Assault Team, also have the ability to unbalance the numbers like putting more than 3 or less than 3 men in each team). I think that this will let the player style what kind of approach they take to the game. I would definitely arm one team with automatic weapons and dub them the assault team (mainly to rush the enemy and kill only up close). This team would have probably four or five soldiers in it. The other team would be much smaller and armed with semi-automatic, medium/long ranged weaponry and explosives. This team would be dubbed the fire team (mainly to kill long range targets and to provide covering fire for the assault team).
2. Ability to arm your soldiers prior to the battle and during the battle. If your sniper gets killed, you shouldn't have to take up his position, right? You should be able to pick it up and give it to another soldier.
3. Remove the tank commands, it really reduces what squad-shooting is supposed to be. Tanks should still be in the game.
4. Ability to tell soldiers to man turret emplacements. This should include any type of turret, German or Allied.
5. Three new commands. A Hold Fire/Fire At Will command (there were some parts where I wanted my men to just stop shooting) and a Hold Position command. The Hold Fire command should tell your soldiers to spot enemies, get them in their sights, but hold their fire unti ordered. Of course, if the team is spotted, they should take out the targets and then resume weapons hold. The Fire At Will command should tell your soldiers to fire for effect at any nearby enemies but stay in formation. The other command I would like is Hold Position. Unlike Fall Out in the first game, the soldiers should find their own cover, create a defensive perimeter, and use any turrets available.
6. Make the Situational Awareness view a little less detailed. Not a 3-D replica of the battle, just a map. And it shouldn't pause the game either. This makes it more realistic. Real soldiers couldn't pause the battle and look at an overly detailed view of every aspect of the battle.
7. Ability to order your men to take different formations. There should be only a couple of them and quite simple. Things like Wedge, Column, Line, Vee, Evhelon Left/Right, and maybe Staggered Columns. This is just an idea, and I'm not too sure if I would want this in there myself. Just an idea.
So, are there any changes that you would want in the command system of Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood? If so, what are they?
