It should come as no surprise that with The Verge finding themselves a source with plenty of inside information on the next-gen console from Microsoft, they're milking them for everything they can. Yesterday's news included details on the next-gen Xbox's television functionality, today's leaks pertain to the currently planned launch titles for the console.
According to the source Microsoft has four "major" launch titles for the next Xbox currently on the slate. These include a new Forza racing game with state of the art graphics, a zombie game, a family game based on an island with next-gen Kinect functionality, and Ryse. Ryse, if you had forgotten, is an FPS hack and slash title from Crytek putting the player in the role of a Roman warrior. Initially announced as a Kinect-enabled experiment, the game has since been upgraded to become the next Xbox's headline title, but retains its Kinect-focused gameplay.
Let's take a moment to reiterate that all of these details are purely rumor. This list could be incorrect, it could be incomplete, or it could simply be incorrect, maybe even triple incorrect. Honestly, it's rather difficult to write about these leaked details, because it so clearly portrays them in a way that really doesn't capture their likely impressive quality. I can say, "new Forza with graphics," and everyone can sigh and roll their eyes, but in motion it's likely one of the best looking games we've ever seen.
Hopefully Microsoft doesn't keep us waiting, hiding these great games and their new console behind a closed door until we've spent all of our patience and imagination. An announcement event is rumored for late May, and Microsoft's console (along with the PlayStation 4) is rumored to be launched this November.
Here's the Ryse trailer from E3 2011, if you need to be refreshed:
