Question |
|
First, let me start off by saying I am not in anyway planning on or encouraging it, but I'm trying to convince my friend that Flashing the firmware on the xbox 360 dvd drive is a really bad Idea, first because they can ban your system, but also your robbing gaming industries.
I also want to know something to strengthen my arguement, do they, in addition to banning your console, also ban your ip address? Once again, I'm not going to be modding firmware, I'm trying to prevent it, so please dont lock this thread until someone posts something helpful up? Thanks in advance! ------------------- Screw you bungie for making recon so easially attainable.

you can also say thats its REALLY tricky to do and theres a strong chance he could brick his drive and it would be completely useless. its generally not a smart idea to flash firmware on anything, let alone a drive where you have to use a PC to do it and you also have to go in and change a ton of hexadecimal code lines for it to work, and even if he messed up on 1 single character it would brick the drive.
i dont think they would ban your IP, they would ban his gamertag at the very least, so he would have to make a new one because he would lose all his achievements and all Gold time he had on it. they would basically send an instruction to the console telling it to nuke the gamertag completely from what i understand. ------------------- ![]()

it's only "robbing gaming industries" if he does it to steal games... i want to do it, aswell as install a huge hard drive just so i can have all my games installed and not have to use the disc anymore. but yes, you can get banned from xbox live for it, and they don't just ban your gamer tag they ban it so that you can never go on live with that xbox again.
you could only get back on live with a different xbox and different gamer tag -------------------

i want to have more HDD space as well, but im definitely not going to sacrifice my Live just for that. thats why im happy by the new 250 GB HDD, im gonna have to upgrade to that at some point.

Hows this for an argument strengthener. 5 of my real friends and 3 of my xbox live friends have been banned in the last week alone.
Reason enough not to bother IMO. ------------------- This is my signature. Yes yes I know.... its fantastic isn't it.

hmmm I wonder how it is that they detect you have done it and ban you. Plus what is the grounds for banning? How exactly is it doing anything bannable. It is your hardware and you can use it in any way that does not break the law. And flashing the firmware is not illegal.
I would never do it for fear of breaking my xbox and of course I am not naive, i know most would do it to play games illegally. ------------------- The Classic Gamer's Society. A gentry club for classic gaming guys. Women are also accepted. ;D

re: Question |
quote Terranigma Fanit's probably not illegal to do it to your xbox, but it probably is someware in the xbox live user agreement that you can't go on xbox live with one. and so doing so would violate your user agreement and get you banned... i don't know how they could tell. but if they find out, you're screwed if you ever want to get on xbox live with that xbox and gamer tag again. -------------------

re: Question |

Well they dont ban your Gamertag, just your console. I mean what if you recovered your friends gamertag, and then it gets banned? They can't just do that. So I'm pretty sure it's just the console.

re: Question |
quote MuD3xthats it in a nutshell. breaks the TOS you agree to when creating a Live account. it doesnt matter if you do it and NEVER go online ever, thats fine, they cant even tell you are doing it in that case. but one of the rules for being able to go on Live is not modding in any way. ------------------- ![]()

re: Question |
quote Oblivion 1yes they can just do that... it's that persons responsibility to make sure their account information doesn't fall into the wrong hands. they ban accounts all the time. they probably ban an entire xbox rarely, just for more severe cases, such as a hacked xbox. -------------------
