I meant we expect to move on to the next peice of technology before the current one breaks. I expect to buy or be planning to buy a new TV, computer, phone, or car before the ones I currently have breaks. In other words I expect them to last a long time. yeah, i know what you mean. i typically like to buy things that are built like tanks and last for a long time. quote Koloth A random hardware failure like the RROD isn't expected or desirable. yeah. but i think the reports are fairly overblown. the launch consoles weren't wonderful, but they've worked it out, mostly. good enough that we shouldn't worry too much about the console dying early too much anyways. ...and it's a good deal more reliable than my original xbox was, let me just tell you.

	Well so far I haven't seen anything amazing over the other. Both consoles, I've seen max out at the same contrast, same draw distances, same object count, both have achieved a true 1080p. People keep mentioning Heavenly Sword, MGS4, and Uncharted exposing the PS3's graphical superiority. No, it's not. At least I haven't seen any at a spectacular level. If it were possible to do it on either console i think it would have already been done but I believe that even if either console's GPU could achieve a higher graphical standard, it cannot due to the fact its other parts aren't as powerful enough to allow that to happen. Memory for example is one thing that goes with attaining more powerful graphical display. Right now on PC, much of the most graphically impressive games I've seen require 2 gigs of memory. The 360 only has 512megs and the PS3 only has 256megs. With that, I really doubt graphics are going to go anywhere past where it is now. ------------------- If I ask you for sex, will your answer be the same as the answer to this question?

	The RAM in the PS3 is made for high speed streaming and is for the CPU first and foremost which is why the RAM is clocked at 3.2Ghz, the other 256Mb is on the GPU meaning it doesn't have to share it's system resources. This means that developers know how much they have and how much they don't. On the Xbox 360 while it has 512Mb from the start that is shared with the GPU and CPU meaning it's a balance board, if one game wants 428Mb directed at the CPU and 256Mb directed at GPU it cannot do it meaning compromises have to made. Both are not ideal solutions and they would have benefitted from a GPU with 1Gb RAM atleast and 2Gb system RAM, though we always have the next consoles for that.

	The PS3 has better lighting effects doesn't it? Resistance 2 has motion blur and depth of field options which are featured as unlockables. You can adjust these on the fly which is something 360 games don't allow. COD has ragtime warfare and slow mo, but its not really comparable by the same standard. -------------------

Perhaps Mass Effect would of been a better choice because at least it has some graphical options like motion blur and film grain and Bioshock has a higher frame rate option. Its a bonus when the developers give you a choice of how you want the game to look but more often than not you will see more of the cooler kind of options on PS3 games. Lighting effects in Resistance2 are amazing and Killzone 2 looks easily as good. To my eyes the PS3 exclusives seem to be at the cutting edge of the technology used. -------------------

Stylistic options such as film grain have nothing to do with graphics, they're more of an option or filter to add a certain style to the game. Lighting may make the games look great, but only when added towards the textures, mapping and animations. Resistance 2 actually wasn't that amazing of a game graphically compared to games like Call of Duty 4 and Bioshock, which look alot better. Also, as the human eye can only see 30 FPS, it doesn't matter how high the frame rate is, as long as it is locked down and above 30. ------------------- Slang on TP's name: quote This is obviously a fake. I know they add a different style but what you see on the screen are the graphics whether its 2D sprites or 3D polygons, it's still the way the game looks. Anyway, your missing my point. What I said was stylistic options which are just like a filter making a different image of the same game aren't special where as ones that change the games design are, hence, depth of field and motion blurring (IMO). And whats anti-aliasing if not an image enhancer? You've contradicted yourself there... -------------------

Personally i feel the motion blur was broken and added as a bonus for fun. I say this because the motion blur doesn't work it stays locked in place even when the protagonist isn't moving... While the PlayStation 3 can do high levels of motion blur to a nigh on movie quality level as seen in Killzone 2 thats not a GPU effect. It's a post-processing effect that uses the CPU and Killzone 2 is the master when it comes to post-processing, the game looks nothing like it does now if you remove the layers of atmosphere, motion blur and multi sampled anti aliasing. This is what makes that game look good it's all about the CPU when it comes to the PlayStation 3's exclusives these days, be it physics to lighting this is one area in capable hands the PlayStation 3 can shine.

I know what you talk of...Try changing the TV settings by adding more colour to the picture turn brightness down and contrast up... stuff like that will make a better picture if your not happy with it. -------------------

Maybe, but you have to remember that PCs have a lot more overhead than a comsole. And increasing the RAM on these console would just make an already expensive peice of hardware even more expensive. No truth is the consoles can get away with a lot less RAM than a PC because it doesn't need to run as much in the background. Unfortunately with things like in game XMB internet connection and so forth this is becoming less and less true and more RAM would indeed be a benefit. But that's where the PS3's super fast FSB comes in handy. Amusingly it is also where the 360s balancing act works well.
