The Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 are about the same in graphical power ...

According to David Shippy who worked on both systems chips. He has written a book about it and was recently interviewed by Gamasutra about it.

I'm not trying to start a war or stir up crap but it was a really interesting article.

I couldn't understand all of the extra-techy talk but it was a good read.

People who prefer graphics to everything else should be shot on sight.

Thats not what I meant, I meant people who say '360 has better graphics than PS3' or '360 has shit graphics' should be shot, they choose graphics over the other elements, like the Game Library, Online etc.

You can't discount graphical horsepower in consoles, especially when the main focal point of this generation is the introduction of High Definition gaming.

Its an interesting conundrum; the Playstation 3 technically has more power but is harder to program and the X-Box 360 runs on hardware which is easier to develop on, so developers will get alot more out of it, but either way it doesn't matter, because they are about the same in graphics.

What really seperates a system are the exclusive games and the features which define them.

well, they're not exactly the same. but it's rather difficult to say that one system is objectively better. all of the comparisons i've seen generally come down to taste.

i guess it's two ways of arriving at the same thing. but it also depends how they split the processing between the CPU and GPU, i suppose.

Only way I can judge is through DVDs which both can play and so far PS3 wins as far as which has the better player and upscaler. XBOX360 shows some slight jaggedness. It really shows on a 1080p tv.

But yeah there really is no honest way to tell. Games haven't maxed out the graphical power and for all we know right now both consoles other hardware that coincides with the graphical processing probably won't ever allow that to happen.

Yeah I really don't know. I mean I also have GTA4 on both the PS3 and the 360 too. 360 has a little more pop in while the PS3 has some rare occasional frame skips. I dunno if that specifically has to do with the GPUs though.
