new console/ old hard-drive

Okay, my console suffered the RROD, I sent it in and they sent back a new console. But the new console want load the content I downloaded from xbox live (arcade games, songs for GH2, and shivering ilse)unless I'm signed into xbox live, which unfortunately is only ocasionaly an option. Does anybody know a solution to this problem?

You can still log into your Xbox Live account, you just can't go online with it.

What? No.

The content you purchased is tied in with that gamer profile and hardware ID. If you take the HDD off and attach it to another console, you must be signed into that profile and onto Xbox Live to play it.

I think you can download your Live account thought the Xbox Dashboard.

Content is permanently tied to the first console it is downloaded on, and the account used to download it. If you re-download it on another console, it knows it's not the first time you've downloaded it, so only the account which downloaded it can use it.

re: new console/ old hard-drive

Here is the solution to restoring you DMR to your current console.

Call up Xbox customer support and ask to speak to a supervisor. Tell them you want to initiate a "software license renewal" so you can play all of the content you downloaded whilst being offline (and also so other profiles on your Xbox can use it. They will walk you through the process.

It takes around 14 days and you'll have to re-download the content (for free of course). After that it will be like old times.

I did it after getting the RROD because my wife and I had downloaded things on each of our accounts. After the console returned from repair I could only access my content whilst signed into live. Also, my wife could not play on the Legendary Map pack I had bought and I could not use the content she had bought on Oblivion (I booted up my game and my character who normally wears the crusader armor was naked).

The hardest bit is getting to talk to a supervisor because the regular drones will tell you you cannot restore you DMR but I pressed the issue and had it fixed.

Hope that helps.

re: new console/ old hard-drive

Thank you Milken, you're awesome. Btw the xbox costumer support number you mentioned, is that the 1 800 MY XBOX number? Also whilst going through the process of renewing the software thing (while speaking with the supervisor) will I need to sign into xbox live or be connected to the internet? Thanks again Milken

Yes 1800 MY XBOX. You shouldn't need to be signed in to Xbox Live but it helps to be near your Xbox. You will need to list at least one piece of content you have bought for each of the profiles on your Xbox.

Have fun.

re: new console/ old hard-drive

It's fixed! All I ended up doing was recovering my gamertag and re-downloading everything. In case you're wondering how to recover your gamertag, you just connect the 360 to the internet but don't sign into xbox live, insted go to the left most page (xbox marketplace) and follow the steps to recover your gamertag. that simple. Oh and don't forget to re-download everything.
