Problem with lava pool on Oni island

Hey guys, I can't get past that small lava pool on Oni island - waterspout simply does not work! I tried drawing it from every possible angle and even tried to wear various equipment items to get past this bug, with no success. Any suggestions?

Be sure Ammy has the fire tablet equipped.

Waterspout can be tricky.

First, check for "holy smoke" under the brush before drawing. The smoke means the brush is over something Amaterasu can manipulate with Brush Power.

After that, draw a short, straight line straight up. (I believe pressing the X key while drawing will force the brush into a straight line.)

Hey JoveHack, thanks for your reply, though I did everything you mentioned, except for pressing the X button, I will have to try that when I get home. It feels like I've been playing Okami for 100 hours and I really wouldn't want to quit now because of a silly bug. This game gets in my top 20, and not many games will be lucky to achieve that hehe

It's a great game, one of my top 10 (and I only played it for the first time recently).

Let me know how it goes. Oni island is a little intense at first, but it's become one of my favorite locations in Okami. So I'd really like to help you through this.

I switched to the PS2 from the PC myself, many years ago, due to the increasing number of my PC games that Window stopped supporting. Welcome aboard.

The PS2 has an awesome game library, probably the best in gaming history. If you have an HDTV, you want to get component cables for vastly superior video quality.

Many PS2 games support widescreen and/or progressive scan (480p) video, which improves video quality even more.

If you're not playing Okami with a rumble enabled game controller then you're missing out. Good vibration can add immensely to a game, and Okami's rumble programming is excellent.

Shadow of the Colossus will be a tremendous change from Okami. I've got it, but only played enough to be sure the disk will load.

The PS2 has something over a thousand games. Just playing the top 10% would be 100 games. After that there are tons of underrated games and hidden gems. Not to mention the occasional quirky favorite, like Naval Ops 2: Warship Gunner. I got that recently based solely on youtube video of the gameplay. It's awesome. Check out any of the youtube videos to see what I mean.

Then there's Gran Turismo 4, which I'm currently playing. One of two PS2 games that supports HD, 1080i resolution (requires component cables). Great simulation with awesome graphics. Got some very rough spots that took a lot of work online to get through. Just figuring out where to go and navigating around can be a pain. But when it works it's amazing. Another game with great rumble support. (Feeling another driver knock you off line when passing feels real enough to inspire road rage.)

Yes, I'm excited to try all the greatest hits of ps2, unfortunately I don't have much free time, but I see it as an investment in to my future. Another option was getting a used early edition of ps3 that supports previous generation games, but used is used, and most AAA games that are released on ps3 are also released on pc.. Only problem is that I don't have a modern tv, so maybe I'll have to get one of those vga boxes to be able hook my ps2 to monitor. Anyway, happy gaming JoveHack!

Connecting PS2 to LCD computer monitor?

If you've already got an emulator working you may just want to stick with that.

Ehh, Okami runs fine on emulator most of the time, but i tried Shadow of the colossus and Metal gear solid 3 and they were unplayable, so i suspect most other 'big' games wouldn't run normally either. So i will try playing Colossus on my small tv when i receive the game and if I don't like it, i'm gonna get one of those vga boxes.

I think i stopped right after that big rotating bridge and the big cat with the lightning bow. That racing with the paper imp was quite challenging. When i start playing games on ps2, i think i will have hard time adjusting to the fact that i cant save at any spot and that sometimes i will have to replay sections over and over.
What about you, have you beaten Okami already? Hopefully i beat it this weekend, because there are pc games piling up that i'd like to try.

Some of the races with Tobi (the paper imp) get easier if you fail a couple of times. Particularly the initial race jumping between those hanging platforms. I always fail 2x there early. It's irritatingly funny to see the hanging platforms come back in a different and easier configuration.

I used the Mist Celestial Brush technique a lot during the races. Someone pointed out that it doesn't actually slow Tobi down. Checking, I think that's true, but there's still a benefit to pausing the game frequently to prep for the next section.



A lot of PS2 games let you save anywhere. (I suspect Sony encouraged that, to sell more memory cards.) I'm a veteran of the early Resident Evil games, which not only made you find a typewriter to save, you also had to find an ink ribbon, too! For survival horror it was (and is) a brilliant touch. Adds dramatic tension to the game that doesn't involve button-bashing combat.

I've been through Okami 3x already. This last time I finally got all 100 beads.

I Beat Blockhead Grande!

I got all but one in each of my previous playthroughs, then started the new game from scratch, as being more interesting.

I've a lot of games piled up too, but I couldn't quite Okami until I'd completely run out of things to do. (I'm currently resisting the temptation to start another run through from scratch.) I even found that Easter Egg FAQ. I'd noticed two things not listed there.
