Combat no so much since you need to check for drops, plus if you powerslay you are constantly switching tasks. For skills like fishing and such yeah you afk but you can do it while talking in friends chat, clan chat, or to people on Skype while working on getting xp or money. The fishing for example is pretty nice to get ~60k gp per inventory.
