Yo guys, thought id post a little story for those who like to follow my gym progress.

As some of you may know, I was diagnosed with a hernia 2 years ago. I had to wait several weeks after the operation before I could resume my training again. A year had passed and my psychological boundaries remained the same - I was scared to lift at 100% incase I tore my wound back open (even to this date I can feel my hernia trying to pop back out again). In the space of 12 months ive had 3 deaths in my family/friends circle to deal with, as well as two cancer scares and a heart attack to my closest ones. Its been a rough time in my life, normally I put a front on but it definitely takes its toll and the gym is a place I go to be in my own world, to forget about all these problems and channel my anger into it and boxing for good rather than going out and ending up in a fight. Overall ive been training 3 years. The first year id like to say was a learning curve. I didnt put much size on (put quite a bit of fat on) as I was studying to become a personal trainer. Gaining qualifications in this opened my eyes up to what I was doing wrong with both my diet and my routines. Since March '10, I upped my training from 4 days a week to 5 and decreased my recovery periods in between each set. Since that move, I have been on a steady incline and recently I have packed on 4 kilo's of weight whilst still keeping some visibility in my abs. At the beginning of the year, I set myself two gym targets. One was to press the brand new 48kg dumbbells that had been purchased by our gym (like 106lb's for americans). Pressing in any form - whether it be flat/decline/incline or shoulder press, I just wanted to get them up there and rep them out. I can shrug and row them with ease, but I wanted to press them. The second target was to get 16 inch arms. I always get compliments on my arm size, but really thats mostly down to the fact that I have a short reach, so they look bigger than they actually are. I said to myself "lets put an inch and a half on my arms within this year up to 16 inches and get a tattoo across it". So behold, evidence of my 2010 goals completed with 1 and a half months to spare:-





I am extremely pleased with myself, hence the large post here (and ill probably copy/paste this into a neo blog or something). People who know me know how dedicated and obsessed I am with the gym. It is a passion of mine, hence my career in it. I have always struggled with strength except in my legs, so pressing these dumbbells is a massive achievement for me especially considering that it was mid-way through my chest workout. I have another month and im hoping to press a few reps out on incline by the end of december. Im still working out goals for 2011, but my target right now is to gain another 3 kilos before a cutting phase to get lean. I am getting so many compliments lately, mainly from girls which is awesome obviously and dudes are always accusing me of being on steroids. I see that as a compliment too, as I havent touched the stuff. So to those on these forums who train, keep going. Im not huge by any means but ive really achieved alot in the past year especially with the whole hernia situation looming over me. I hope next year I can post a video of me shoulder pressing the 48's for 10 reps or something, and 17 inch arms haha.
