re: Final Fantasy VIII PC Version Problems

That was a very good idea, but it only got me to 77%. Which was better. I also checked in several different lights (Sun, UVB, lamp) and there is not a single scratch on the disk. I treat them like gold.
P.S. The error I got in the other thread was one I got on one of the many re-installs. I only saw it once though.

re: Final Fantasy VIII PC Version Problems

This is for u, obscuR!!
I don't know the reason of the bug, but i had it and solved it......
now we have a trouble... i can't find the path throug the regedit, maybe because i've uninstalled the game... anyway I'll try to explain:
u must run REGEDIT and look for strings that say 'fantasy', then you'll find one that says just a letter, this one indicates the cd-ron device where the game looks for the cd. change the value by the right letter, i mean the cd-ron drive where u insert the cd, and that's all.
I hope u can undestand this, english language is quite difficoult for me, really sorry about that!!
let me know if it worked, good luck
Paolo

About my trouble, i can see that the edea's speech video crashes, don't know yet if because of WinXP or the cd. Does anyone know how to skeep a video while playing the game?
thanks
paolo

PD: that language makes me sweet!!!!

I am afraid that there is no way that I know of for certain to skip the videos on the PC version. You can do it on the PS version by opening the CD cover just after the movie starts, and then closing it again when the screen goes black. I have not tried this for the PC version so I won't say this will not work, I just think it is more likely to crash the game than work, but if you want to try it...

Kjacobs03
Well, we are getting there, just need that last 33%...
There is something that used to happen when I installed Unreal Tournament (the origonal) on my old 166. If I didn't keep moving the mouse during the install, it would crash part way through. I don't have that trouble now on my 2.2GHz, but it may be worth you giving it a go.

I treat my cds like gold too, but they still somehow managed to get scratched. Especially any music cd that I put in my discman while I walk... It's annoying, but I tend to keep backups of my audio cds in mp3 form anyway so it's not too bad.

There is a patch that will fix those lines. You can get the patch here; ftp://ftp.eidos.co.uk/pub/uk/final_fantasy_8/patches/FF8EidosEngNVPatch.zip

OK, this is to annoying..
I've red through what you've talked about and solved/not solved earlier, and I couldn't find my solution..
I've installed the game, and i ran the game. I pressed "new game" and I saw the intro (it worked properly). but after the intro, when the FFVIII logo appears and fades to white, it just quits to windows... and doesn't tells me to insert disc 2 or nothing(don't know if it's cd2 after this), it just quits the game. HELP ME PLEASE!

re: Final Fantasy VIII PC Version Problems

Well, compatability mode is when you (I think... I can't remember exactly) right click on a game's .exe, or it's shortcut and go to properties and there should be a check box labeled compatability mode.

The Final Fantasy games are notoriously incompatible with XP. You have to get a special patch if you want to play FFVII on XP, thankfully all FFVIII needs is compatability mode.

And you shouldn't have to change discs there, not until you either load a game saved on another disc, or after fighting Edea where squal gets speared after the battle.

re: Final Fantasy VIII PC Version Problems

I have a P4 1.6Ghz computer with 256mb memory and a 32mb SiS 650 graphics adaptor (or something like that)
When I finish the first movie with Squall and Seifer fighting, I get to the infirmary, the doctor starys talking right? The colors in the box with the works are grey, but there are streaks of rainbow color (vertical streaks)
I can't play the game like that. Ive only played up to where Quistis shows up (Movie style) and then it froze. (causing me to restart computer the bad way.)

Can anyone please help me solve these problems?

re: Final Fantasy VIII PC Version Problems

lol I'm sorry to bump an old topic, but I just got FF8 for PC. I have an nVidia GeForce2 XTASY card. It should run it well, 'cause I had an older 16 MB card that ran it just fine years ago when I played the demo.

Now when I run it, sometimes the characters flicker or become rainbow-colored. Also there are lines through the screen. The menus are...inverted, I think, 'cause they have red and green splotches all over 'em.

I downloaded a patch and that fixed the backgrounds for the most part (there's still an occasional off-color moment here and there), but it's still pretty freaky. Help?

re: Final Fantasy VIII PC Version Problems

Well I installed FF8 and got it working once, just once. The rest of the time it hangs during the intro movie, exactly the same problem I had with FF7 until I transferred the movie files to the hard drive.

I'm considering installing a dual boot 98/XP to try to get around this.

Dual boot is not the answer

Running in 98 compatibility mode with the options set to use software rendering instead of video card it runs okay.

I don't know if you ever come here any more, but the FF games hate a lot of Nvidia's cards, primarilly the Riva/TNT series, but there have been several reported graphical issues with the Geforce series as well.
