Crash when clicking chat or diplomacy

So, AoE2 crashes when I click chat or diplomacy (or press ALT-T or ALT-D).

I'm using Windows XP SP3, AoE2 v2.0a. I tried running the game in all the compatibility modes, reinstalling the game. Same for The Conquerors Expansion. No luck. Has any1 got a solution?

Same with AOE1 Gold so don't worry )

Wreckless...i too have xp 32bit and 7 RC 64 bit dual boot

if its ati driver problems then which ati driver would be most suitable to revert back to? 9.0? 9.1? the latest is 9.8 atm which still doesn't work with Age of Empires 2

ahh thats cool quite a way back. im using a virtual pc now to play it for now which also works like a charm

"Hey guys, i know its a little late.. but if u disable "Direct Draw" acceleration in the dxdiag.exe panel under the display tab (Start -> Run -> dxdiag) this game works fine on the ATi cards. just remember to re enable it if you play anything else!"
