General help, tactics, and strategy

I noticed there is no thread for general questions with with the game, so here it is. Any future questions with the gameplay in itself can be asked here.

So anyway...for Q #1, haha; I havn't got too far in the game yet. I am just accompanied by Maryl and Grahm, and got out of a cave into some snowy land. I have come up to some rediculously large, and powerful creatures who were like giant eagles or griffins or something of that nature. I went up to it to try and bash it in the face with my ogre club and with one hit i was dead.....dead by one hit from one of them, and there were like 3!! How exactly am i supposed to defeat these things? Perhaps it is simple because after that i was like, well screw this im going to bed haha. Should I attack them with my battle bow? And just have Maryl and I attack from a distance? I would probly assume that Grahm would die shortly due to his jumping into battle obsession haha. How did you guys get through this part?

If you ever come upon an area where you die in one hit, you're in the wrong place. I don't know exactly where you are at the moment, but you're going to wrong way. If you're on your way to Quincine you just need to go north from the cave. Follow what the signs say, they are your friend, listen to them.

re: General help, tactics, and strategy

Alright, i tried to fight them again by using a battle bow and it barely registered any damage at all. I also don't believe Maryl's magic did much either. These creatures breathe some sort of blue fire or something if that helps any. The fire does damage but it isn't impossible to just move before he breathes it at me. As for the rest of my party, of course they just stand there and take it, which leads to their quick deaths. Eventually i got too close and with one swipe of it's claws...death.
As for what you advised me, i thought i was following the signs....are there different signs leading to other places? I followed the signs and looked for alternative routes and fell into the same and only route each time....I'll try to look for another way to go, but it looks grim, haha.

EDIT: Alright, i tried to look for an alternate way to no avail. I walked along the ridge as i believe i was supposed to until i came to a bridge. The bridge was guarded by three Blue Drangons who shoot ice at me. I am currently fighting one of them and have tried everything from different spells to different bows and nothing is hurting the thing. Am i expected to attack him up close in combat with a sword or something?!? If so, how is that logically sane for this level in the game. The thing acts like it is the final boss, almost unbeatable or something. I really wish that there would be an alternate way and i could get to the next area, although i am afraid that is not so......

EDIT 2: ok i tried to draw out the first dragon who follows me from his side to the other side of the bridge, then i attempted to draw out the other dragons but they don't even move! Three additional dragons sit around the other side of the bridge just waiting.....I figured what the hell, and charged them with maryl and grahm....amazingly that didn't work and i died very shortly. I may have to buy the stategy guide......

EDIT 3: Hahahahaha, well i guess you were right all along...after fighting the dragons for like the 10th time i decided i had no other choice than to look for another route, so i basically went back from where i started and ended up finding new enemies....so i was like, well then perhaps if i follow this road then i'll find the way out and i did! I hope the rest of this game is a bit less confusing......

re: General help, tactics, and strategy

Ugh, I really need help now. I only have one more Legion Hive to finish, and then I'm done all 20. I can't seem to kill the boss of the Wyrm hive (Y-Arm hive). I've tried bows, spells, swords, nothing works. Right now I'm thinking I might bring Alex along and have him try to petrify him, but I doubt that's going to work. If there was some way to stop his heal regeneration, then it would be fine, but he regains health way too fast.

I'm going to do the Second Trail of Light but I don't want to go on to the third until I've gotten all of the Legion Hives, and the special one in the Hills of 25 Sages.

Do you have the Darkness Awakened secret art? Equip that to your Force Buster and upgrade your attack as much as possible. Use whichever of your weapons that has the highest of attack power and equip the Darkness Awakened which heals you. Don't worry about your guys, just attack and attack and it'll take awhile. But you may have to wait until you finish the second Ordeal of Light to make it a bit easier. Just collect a lot of Force Energy and upgrade your weapons and defense and you'll do fine.

re: General help, tactics, and strategy

Weapon advice:

Although all the weapons have there uses I have found that personally you will need two weapons.

One is for the average enemy that can be harmed by any weapon. The other is for the hard-knocks-golems and thier lot.

Although it doesn't appear to be much I have found the scythe the most effect weapon for the average foe. It's stronger than most one handed swords, even if it is slower. It does on the other hand have two 'real' benefits.

A high critical-threat range, over a 100% I believe unmodifed, that will help in causin terrible damage with each swing. And its last special effect is that is heals you for each ememy you kill (and with a high critcal it may be more often than you think).

My personal second is a +9 Ogre Mace with 100% against undead, that adds an additonal attack to boot!

Raise `em sink `em and lets have another!

re: General help, tactics, and strategy

I use the Valyrike most of the time. I find it does great damage, especially when there's lots of enemies around. I also have a +5 Punisher which has around 15,000 attack, and I even used that on the Arc Dragon but nothing happened. If only he didn't have such a high health regeneration rate then I could kill him easily. I have the Darkness Awakened art on all my weapons, it's just easier that way. Still, I can't beat him. It's really annoying me now since I need that energy because now I can't beat the Third Ordeal of Light. >_>

re: General help, tactics, and strategy

You can continue to go through the Ordeal of Lights as much as you want, just without the Avatars after you beat them. So just play around in those places for awhile and build up energy. I play with the tatic that I don't use Force Energy until I have a hard time killings the enemies around me. It worked fine until the last Ordeal of Light. I had to use a Charm of Light against him. But upgrade your weapons and armor by selling all your weapons that you don't need. When I didn't need the force, I sold the weapons and got hundreds of thousands for each of the good weapons.

But I have a Force Buster that has a 30,000 attack and does something like half a million attack or more. And I used that for almost the entire game. But the things that is depending on you is your level. I was level 120-130 around the last Avatar of light.

re: General help, tactics, and strategy

Ok. I'm 116 right now. Maybe I'll upgrade my Force Buster after I upgrade my Valyrike. It's +6 right now, so it shouldn't take that long. I still would like to beat the Y-Arm Legion Hive first though, just so I can go through the 'secret' hive so I can get those 5 extra potions and 500,000 energy. I still don't know how to kill the Arc Dragon.

re: General help, tactics, and strategy

DivineDragon, try using magic spells against the Arc Dragon. He's vulnerable to some forms of magic, but keep away from Dark and Light magics. A suggestion would be using the staffs that have magic which creates a barrier around your guy.

I wish that you could use the Luicifer Rod to revive the dragons, because it's loads of fun having the dragons help kill their own kind.

re: General help, tactics, and strategy

Yes... That's what every single walkthrough has said... Given it's the same walkthrough plastered all over the internet, but still. I tried using magic. Well, only my Frost spells (because they are the highest) but nothing seems to work. I'm just getting my Force Buster up to +9 and then try again. I doubt it will do anything, but might as well try.

re: General help, tactics, and strategy

The Force Buster has a great attack power and if you're attacks are being raised by a ring that is 100% effective against Dragons in general than it may be of more use. It may take awhile, but if you can notice the difference it's making. Than just keep with it until you're done.

I tried using magic myself, but it's really not worth much use. I think, I gave up using it after awhile. But it did make things go a bit faster when my magic was enhanced.

re: General help, tactics, and strategy

The weapon i found most usefull was the sky striker agaist the arc dragon. of course, i had dragon killer force art maxed out, and a weapon atk like lvl 7 or 8, and i beat him when i was somewhere in the neighborhood of lvl 80-90. Yeah, just use that good ol' shoot 'em till they almost are able to hit you, move, then shoot 'em again tactic.
