what everyone on here needs to learn is how to actually gain stats:
defence is gained by damage taken.
agility is how much you move, in battle i think.
mp is how much you use magic.
and power is how much you attack with your staff.

Agility goes up much faster in battle than outside of it, so all you have to do is just walk around in a battle. It works wonders at the start of the game especially.

Power is related to your Max HP, your Fire Element, and the total ammount of Elements you have. It's confusing, obviously...

I seem to recall that the more of a particular element you had, the more powerful attacks from that element became. Other than that, I do not know what affects the power rating.

Interesting. Element had affect on your power rating? I had no idea actually. I wouldn't be surprised though, this game seems capable of being that complecated.
