Oh, how we love FFVII love-triangle debates



The FFVII forum has the love-triangle between Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith and we all know that debate has been done to death. But since Crisis Core's release the thread has added Zack into the mix, and it's nice having something new to discuss in the love-triangle. So I thought I'd bring some of the discussion over into this forum.
(though this question mostly applies to people who have also played FFVII and/or watched AC).

So who do you think Aerith really loves by the end of AC?
Zack? Cloud? Both? (or maybe Tseng )
Do you she was fond of Zack for a while, but she loved Cloud much more? Or do you think she always loved Zack and was still waiting for him even in FFVII?

She always loves Zack and that's that!

Aeris says it herself to Cloud, and pretty much states 'let's start over' as she wants to get to know Cloud, not the person he reminds her of. By that point in the timeline, she's not much time left.

After playing Crisis Core I have to believe she loved Zack more. I know in the original game it's definately Cloud but some of the scenes just hint towards the fact that she loved him and he loved her. We know he loved her considering he was going to do anything to get back to her. He fought off thousands of infantrymen to save Cloud and get back to Aerith. It was heartbreaking when they built up the last scene when Zack tells Aerith several times he will see her again and in the end he comes up just short.

I did play FFVII however, it is MUCH sadder in Crisis Core. Also, they don't go very in depth with that situation between Zack and Aerith in VII as they do in Crisis Core.

Well I would have to say both. If we truly love someone do we ever stop loving them? Yeah, we might love them just for them and not in a romantic way but the love remains. If we think back to our first "loves". Most of us had all these plans and goals for each other. We thought this is going to last forever. We were never more sure in our lives about "this" making it nor no doubts. Not many of us stay with our first loves, things happen unexpectedly. We move on "eventually" but by no means I don't think we ever stop loving them. But in Aerith's case, She had no closure thus she went on waiting for Zack for as long as she did. I know I would have done the same for my first love if they just vanished. Then cloud shows up and he allowed her to move on and progress in her life, maybe in a rebound type of way at first.Then she realized she was truly falling for this guy. This new love she felt was more deeper and true because we all learn and grow as humans. I think square wanted us to look at life, death and Love in a more realistic manner (set in a fantasy world, of course) and I think I did. So the answer in Short is both, though she was in love with cloud by the end, Also remember the length of time almost a decade is (All of this from a non-bias Stand point, though if I was being Bias I would pretty much say Clerith xD)

Sorry, she still loved Zack more. Squeenix couldn't have thrown it in our faces anymore than they did in Crisis Core. They must've had at least 30 statements between Aerith and Zack about seeing each other again or being together and spending more time together.
