Aeris is Aerith now -_- - Page 3

I still don't see the whole reasoning on why most of you care about how they put aerith in there then aeris, They're both her name. She has two different ways to say her name, nothing else in the game seems to be changed, from what im playing. So who cares. No one has even made a point why everyone should care for the change, perhaps its for the better. And besides be glad they even gave us CC to begin with, they had no intentions to bring it else where when it was in the makings and when it was released in Japan.

You're still off the mark FB. Her name is still AERIS in Japan, it's just spelled with a TH, since the TH makes the S sound without added vowels (the letter U at the end). So her name, still being AERIS, should be AERIS everywhere else. It's a stupid translation error, and given they have already established the name multiple times (with every element of VII that has appeared in Square games released in English countries), including voiceovers, it's something that really can't be professionally forgiven.

Exactly. If the fans kick up a fuss about something, then Squeenix have to listen.
A fine example of this is Dirge of Cerberus. If fans had "just been grateful they gave us the game at all" and hadn't complained about the shoddy controls, then Squeenix wouldn't have fixed up the game for the US/PAL release. They would have assumed everyone was happy with it. Sure, DoC was pretty average anyway, but at least our version wasn't downright unplayable like the Japanese version.

The Japanese version of Dirge had awful controls that made Vincent almost impossible to use. In Japan the game was an absolute failure and the sales reflected that. It was still pretty average over here too, but not as much of a failure.
Gametrailers released a video explaining what was changed for the English release...


Which brings me back to my original point ... If people don't complain about a game's problems, then nothing will be done about those problems. Obviously small things like the "Aeris" and "Aerith" probably won't be changed, but bigger things will be. (such as the entire control system, ala Dirge of Cerberus).
Just look at Mena Suvari - We can only assume she was ditched as Aerith's voice actor because of the overwhelming negative response from fans. It seems like Squeenix listened to what we had to say.

I didn't realize that the TPS was only in the English version. That seems like a strange move. Why not just put TPS in every version, so then everyone would be happy?

The fact that she was called "Aeris" in Final Fantasy Tactics shows that it wasn't just a mistranslation in FFVII. Square intended her English name to be Aeris. If they didn't, then they wouldn't have called her "Aeris" in two different games (unless the same guy mistranslated it twice).

MGS has always had a first person aim system, but it's always needed a TPS movement system, or a true FPS movement system (where you could move forward, backward, strafe, aim up/down/left/right, and shoot without problematic control handling). Kojima called it 'traditional' gaming that Japanese players preferred, while the US was more than ready to use TPS controls to turn the online component (and campaign) into a much more realistic experience - something that needs to be done given the competition outplays MGS. Big company like Konami had no reason for that. Tradition can only go so far before a break is required. These next gen consoles can do so much more than the PSX could.

He was caught in a bit of a lie as well though - Kojima has motion sickness, so he can't personally handle a TPS system. It's likely a core reason why the series never fully adapted to the times, and now that it's the last game he's pretty much forced to. Next gen reviewers are not going to be that forgiving.

A game director that can't play his own game. That says quite a lot.

Wow, if Dirge did so badly why the hell did they insist on Genesis'? I know Nomura's got an obsession, but shit. They did nothing special with Genesis' plot in CC. >__<

Was Aeris' name voiced as Aerith in KH?
I don't remember her name being spoken in AC. If it was a credit-only thing, it's likely they simply neglected translation.

I like Aerith better than Aeris. It just sounds better for me. I think people tend to prefer what is familiar to them though. I like how it sounds like AIR and EARTH.

btw, there was this anime I used to watch that had a guy who's name was pronounced "Sumisu". It wasn't till a year later that I found out that Sumisu is the closest the japanese can come to pronouncing SMITH. And his name was actually SMITH.

The TH is pronounced SU since there is now TH in the japanese alphabet. (note: when SU is at the end of the word, the u is often silent) Hence the translation to AERIS.

Aeris may sound nicer to some fans. But people that created this game always wanted her name to be Aerith. And it's really THEIR property. We are just fans.
