All you need to know: Homebrew Guide
|
|
Log in to remove this sponsored message In Progress: ________________________________ What is Homebrew? ________________________________ Homebrew is user made PSP games and Applications that can be ran on your PSP. Homebrew is not Officially supported by Sony, but homebrew will give you more options to do with your PSP then the official Sony firmwares could ever give out. What can Homebrew do that I can't already? ________________________________ Tons of things! Homebrew opens new possibilities and functions for your PSP, most of which Sony can never bring you. These programs can be as simple, like using your PSP as a Universal Remote control, or even more complicated like controlling your PC with your PSP via WiFi. Stream Music, videos, pictures and homebrew games to your PSP through WiFi, Set up a calender, play any MP3 while you play any game and EVEN MORE! The possibilities are literally endless. How can I get Homebrew on my PSP? ________________________________ Only certain firmwares can use homebrew. To check what firmware your PSP is...
These Firmwares can support homebrew, but not easily:If you need to downgrade, Scroll down to the Downgraders Guide. Once you have one of these firmwares, you must downgrade to firmware 1.50 (if not already there). How do I install Homebrew? Firmware 1.50 ________________________________ First download some homebrew you would like to play or use. You can download some great 100% legal homebrew here.
How do I install Homebrew? Custom Firmware 3.XXOE and Custom Firmware 3.XX M33 ________________________________
Where can I download Homebrew? ________________________________ There are alot of different PSP Fansites, but some of them could possibly hold harmful or malicious software capable of damaging your PSP. Thus, make sure you only visit and download from trusted PSP Fansites. pspupdates.qj.net is by far the most safe and trusted PSP website. They have moderators to check what is put up on that website and do not hold any illegal or harmful software. They are also the #1 source for the latest PSP news and updates. -PSPupdates.qj.net Website -PSPupdates.qj.net Download Files -PSPupdates.qj.net Forums -Quick FAQ- Q:When I install homebrew, I get corrupted data under my memory stick. What do i do? A:Make sure all your homebrew is named like this, "__SCE__homebrew" and "%__SCE__homebrew". Replace the name Homebrew with the name of your Game or app. Once both folders are renamed, the corrupted data should be gone. Q:When I start my homebrew, it says "This game cannot be started (80000004). What do I do?" A:This could be caused by a number of factors... -Make sure you have both homebrew folders inside the GAME or GAME150 folder. -You have a firmware that is not able to run homebrew. Remember you must have firmware 1.50, Custom Firmware 2.71SE or any OE Firmware to run homebrew. -Make sure you have the homebrew installed in the right folder. GAME - Playstation1 games and PSP Demos GAME150 - Homebrew games\applications and Custom Firmware Updates Q: I want to change my Custom Firmware from OE to M33 (or Vise Versa), Do I need to downgrade first? A: No you don't unless the instructions of the Custom Firmware you want to go to say different. Going back down to Firmware 1.50 and then upgrading to a custom Firmware is acceptable as well, Do which ever is easier and safer for you. Q: I went from Custom Firmware OE to Custom Firmware M33 (Or Vise-versa) and now my Recovery Menu Configuration crashes and ISO\CSO's don't work. A: This is caused by a corruption in your Flash1, this problem is easily solved by formatting your Flash1. To do so... -Enter Recovery mode -Go into Advanced -Start a USB FLASH1 Connection, NOT FLASH 0! -Delete all Folders in your Flash1, its safe don't worry -Exit Recovery mode and your done. Network Settings, Parental Control and Misc settings will need to be reset. Q: I downloaded and installed an XMB theme and now some of my Homebrew Doesn't work A: This is a problem caused by accident by the Theme Makers and not properly patching the vsh.prx in the theme you downloaded, Its a common mistake and a simple Fix. -First Download Patch SFO for 3.XX. This works for both OE and M33 Custom Firmware. -Open the file with Winrar and drag the "PatchSFO (GAME150 Version)" Folder into "PSP>GAME150" or PSP>GAME" on your PSPs memory stick. -On your PSP, Go to Game>Memory Stick and Start PatchSFO. It will quickly patch your homebrew that doesn't already have a patched .sfo file. This is a one time process that must be done to all your Homebrew. If you add a new Homebrew game then you must re-run Patch SFO. -You may delete Patch SFO once your done using it. Any errors in this post? Anything you think needs to be added? All you need to know: Downgraders Guide
|
|
Why Downgrade?
________________________________ Downgrading is an almost essential step in running homebrew for your PSP. Downgrading is needed because Sony blocks Homebrew on its latest firmwares, and to run homebrew you must be at at least firmware 1.50. So downgrading will basically, bring you from a higher firmware to a lower firmware. Can I Downgrade? ________________________________ Only certain firmwares are able to downgrade at the moment. To check what firmware your PSP is... 1.Turn on your PSP 2.Go to Settings>System Settings>System Information 3.Your "System Software:X.XX" is your firmware. These firmwares that can downgrade include: **Note** If your firmware is not listed, updating to one of these firmwares will allow you to downgrade. Is downgrading safe? ________________________________ Downgrading is not a very complicated process, but if not done correctly can result in a brick(broken PSP). Make sure you follow the directions for downgrading carefully and follow them step by step. All downgraders will alert you if you may have not done a step in the downgrade process, so don't get to worried about it. It may seem complicated for some people, but its really a simple process that deserves all your time and attention. What do I need before I downgrade? Required knowledge for ALL firmwares ________________________________ To make sure your downgrader works as best as it can, it requires a few things... -A PSP to PC USB Connection (USB to Mini USB Cord) -A battery charged ATLEAST 75% -Make sure you have ATLEAST 50mbs Free on your memory stick -Completely Shut off your PSP before you downgrade, then turn it back on. This is suggested to clear your PSPs RAM. -Plug in your PSP to your AC adapter while downgrading -You MIGHT need to know what type of motherboard your PSP has. quote How to identify your PSPs motherboard, Quick Tutorial Downgrading Firmware 2.00 -> 1.50 - All PSP's ________________________________ You will need the following items First: -A PSP with Firmware 2.00 -MPH Downgrader -Sony Firmware 1.50

Set-up Magic Memory Stick & Jigkick Battery - All PSP's ________________________________ Important Info to know: -A "Jigkick" battery is a battery that once inserted into the PSP, will boot the PSP into the Restore Screen. A Jigkick battery will NOT be able to boot the PSP normally unless converted back. -A "Magic Memory Stick" is a regular Pro Duo memory stick which contains the files that are required to boot into the Restore screen. -If you decide to convert your battery back, plug your PSP into your AC adapter to turn it on. Only reinsert the battery when you have the option to convert the battery back. You will need the following items First: -A PSP with any firmware -A second PSP Battery is recommended but not required -Magic Memory and Battery Setup -1.50 Update eboot

re: All you need to know: Custom Firmware and Flashing Guide
|

What is Custom Firmware?
________________________________ Custom Firmware is based off Sony's Original firmware, but with modified files to benefit the homebrew community. Custom firmwares give you the support of homebrew, with the features of Sony's official Firmware at the same time with no need for devhook or other firmware emulating homebrew applications. Custom Firmware also includes a Recovery Menu which can save a PSP from becoming bricked (broken) so a custom firmware is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to have before flashing your PSP. What are the Features of Custom Firmware? OE & M33 Firmware ________________________________ What mainly sets Custom firmware aside from the official Sony firmwares are the features that benefit homebrew. But Custom firmware has a few more tricks up its sleeve. To access the options below, you must get into the Recovery menu. quote How to load PRXs, quick tutorial
quote Convert Playstation .ISO\.BIN\.IMG to .pbp, quick tutorial How can I get Custom Firmware on my PSP?? ________________________________ Now that you have that downgraded PSP with 1.50 Firmware, you are going to want to install a custom firmware for Homebrew support and the latest Sony Updates. Installing these custom firmwares is simple but be sure to take your time because it may get confusing to new users. The most popular Custom Firmwares are OE (Open Edition) and M33. Both have their perks over the other but are actually very similar to each other. I recommend M33 Firmware because it supports homebrew and is based off a later Firmware then OE is but its really up to you in the end. ~Under Construction~ Installing OE Custom Firmware:
Installing M33 Custom Firmware:

Are there risk involved? ________________________________ Inside your PSP there is built in memory, this is known as the Flash. The Flash memory holds your firmware files, without the flash your PSP could not function. "Flashing" your PSP is basically adding or modifying firmware files in your PSPs flash. Flashing your PSP will give you the ability to completely customize your PSPs XMB (menu). Now your Fonts, Gameboot, sounds, Icons and much more can be changed. The risk involved from flashing are non-existant if you use a Custom Firmware such as 3.40OE or 3.XX M33. If you are not using a Custom Firmware, its possible your PSP could Brick. How do I Flash my PSP? ________________________________ Your PSP can be flashed via the Recovery Menu of your Custom Firmware. You can access the Recovery Menu by going into the Recovery menu, go to Advanced and Highlight "Toggle USB (Flash0)". Now, plug in your PSP to your PC through your USB cable, Press X to start USB mode. Instead of your PC showing you whats on your PSP's memory stick, You will see 6 new folders. These folders make up your PSP's flash0. Glad you like it, I'm hoping this can be a sticky. If not, I can just link to it when someone ask about such stuff.
I do need some help though, if anyone has had any experience with the Tif exploit E-loader. I want to put up an E-loader tutorial along with the 1.50\3.03OE homebrew tutorial but I'm not completely familiar with the menu or how it works. Also, I dont mind if people post here. Good or bad comments, suggestions or even if they just have questions. Fill free to reply -------------------

Thank you for all the comments
I just finished the 2.80 -> 1.50 Downgrader Guide and I finished up the Custom Firmware Features. Next is probably 3.03OE-A installation and then XMB\menu Customizing with Flashing. At the same time I will be (slowly) working on the 2.71 Downgrader -------------------
