Playgear Pocket Skins

Welcome to the Neoseeker Play Gear Pocket skins thread! In here you will find out how to create your own skins and skins made by other members of the forum. Please keep the skins clean, no nudity or sexually suggestive skins. If they are posted, they will be deleted on sight, and you will receive a ban.

Logitech Playgear Pocket Skin Photoshop Templates
Click to download:

JPEG Templates:

Printing directions for MS Paint
  1. Right-click and COPY the skin.
  2. Open up Microsoft Paint.
  3. Go to EDIT>PASTE.
  4. Go to FILE>PAGE SETUP.
  5. Make your settings look like this, then print:

Photoshop tutorial for making skins

This tutorial was made using Photoshop 7.0, but the techniques and tools used should work as well with Photoshop CS or other versions. This tutorial is not for use with MS Paint, Paint Shop Pro, or any other image editing software.

To use this tutorial, you must download th Photoshop templates linked above . There are several options for image resolutions to download.

SINGLE SKIN TUTORIAL
  1. Open your resolution template of choice in Photoshop. For this tutorial, I am using the 100 dpi template.

  2. Open the artwork image of choice. For this skin, I'm using the Thundercats logo. Right-click the artwork and duplicate layer to your template document as shown.

If your image is too small for the space, DO NOT RESIZE IT. Images in JPG format are pixel-based and sizing them larger stretches the same number of pixels over a larger area, resulting in poor image quality. Pixel-based images are a lot like spandex ... they can only stretch so far. If your image is too small, use a lower resolution template. If your image is too large, consider yourself lucky and use a higher resolution template.

  3. Onward ... My Thundercats logo fits nicely, but I don't want that gray background showing. I'm going to click on my background layer and Edit -- Fill the layer with black. If your image fills out the template window, this isn't needed.

SPECIAL NOTE: If your artwork has a lot of white in it, you'll want to change the color of the layer titled "outer edge" which is the masking of the Logitech skin shape. Using your keyboard and mouse, CTRL click on this layer to load the selection. Making sure you have this layer selected in the layer menu, Edit -- Fill with another color, or use the paintbucket tool.

  4. You're pretty much done if all you wanted was a simple skin with one piece of artwork in it. Save and print your image from Photoshop. You should not need to resize. If you want to post it on the forums, SAVE AS a jpeg and upload it to your hosting space.

  5. This is optional. I'm going to add a simple inset border to my skin. Create a new layer. Keeping your new layer selected, CTRL click on the "outer edge" layer to load selection. Then go to Select -- Invert Selection. Now choose black from your color swatches (or hit D on your keyboard to go to default black and white). Finally, go to Edit -- Stroke and make a border about 10 pixels wide INSIDE your selection, as shown here:

  6. Why a black border on a black background you ask? Stick with me, we're not done yet. Now that you have your black border, create another new layer. Keeping your new layer selected, CTRL click to load select the black border layer. Choose what color you want your border to be. I've used the color dropper tool to choose a light blue from the logo for my inset border.

Now go to Edit -- Stroke and create a 2 or 3 pixel border OUTSIDE of your selection. This is what you should have now:

Now Select -- Deselect. Save and print your image. You're DONE!

DOUBLE SKIN TUTORIAL
  1. Open up the doubleskin_100.psd template. Then open up the image(s) you want to use for your skin. Duplicate your artwork to your template, as described in the single skin tutorial.

  2. Once your artwork is arranged as you like it, you can either save and print your skin, or you can add some extras like text and borders. I downloaded some Playstation fonts from DaFont.com and added them to my skin. Just plain white for these PS2 style buttons seemed a bit boring to me, though. Right click your text layer and go to Blending Options. I changed the blending mode of my text layer to "overlay" as shown below.

  3. I added 'PSP' in the Playstation font to the bottom half of my skin. Then, just for fun, I returned to the artwork layer and changed the color to red using Image -- Adjust -- Hue/Saturation.

    SAVE AND PRINT!

Of course they can. I'm sure the gfx makers of the forum will take skin requests.

Well you can save the image(s) onto a remove-able disk and take it to your local printing outlet.
