Why would they release the GO! as well as a secondary system that's nothing but a larger, enhanced clone in the exact same year?
Never. -------------------

^ Probably because it's not just a larger enhanced clone. Sony are keen on implementing a digital distribution-based console, but to make it a viable case the only option is to run the UMD PSP along-side. That's why they're still making 3000s, and that's what the 4000 will be. I can't see them releasing two PSP models in one year, but according to the PSP's model history, the 3000 is due for an update, and I don't think they'll wait until next October to do it.
But it's hard to say what will happen. Luigi why are they dipshits? -------------------

A lot of people hate the idea, probably because they don't like the idea of digital distribution. I think it's pretty good. It's a way of kick-starting digital distribution and being one of the first companies to do so in such a big way, using a library and user-base that's already pretty big, without alienating current PSP owners. I mean, you consider the alternatives...What if they made a digital console that was stand-alone? It wouldn't have the games or popularity to support it from the get-go. What if they made the PSP digital-only? People would revolt, developers would stop making games. The solution is a parallel approach, with both digital and UMD consoles running the same games. The PSP lives on as usual, and the Go uses part of its fanbase, and its games, to survive as a digital console.

Well, it sucks for those who DON'T want to spend their time waiting for a download. Having a UMD basically ensures that the game is ready and in perfect working order.

^ Which is why the 3000 is still being sold. Also, it's why the Go never took off in Australia.
To the rest of the world it makes sense, they have decent internet. -------------------
