Pandora's Battery and Magic Memory Stick Guide. Works for Slim PSPs as well. Written by StarJet. |
|
Well, so many people are having trouble with installing CFW on their new PSPs. For new slim PSPs, the only way is to use Pandora's Battery. Sadly, the homebrew guide written by monkeyninjas316 does not cover the Pandora's Battery section for slim PSPs. So, I decided to write one to help out the people having trouble with it
DISCLAIMER : You are doing this at your own risk. This procedure may have a very small risk of bricking your PSP just like any other update. By following these instructions, you agree to the fact that If your PSP is bricked by any chance, I will not be held responsible. This guide is in two sections. Guide 1 : Create both the Pandora's Battery and Despertar del Cementerio Memory Stick using a CFW installed PSP. Guide 2 : Buy a Pandora's Battery such as the Datel Tool Battery and make the Despertar del Cementerio Memory Stick using your PC. Creating a Pandora's Battery using a CFW installed PSP. Items required :
Model TA-085 : First generation slim PSP. Can make a Pandora's Battery. Model TA-085v2 : Second generation slim PSP. CANNOT make a Pandora's Battery. Creating the battery : Run the Pandora's Battery app. NOTE : The app provided in this guide is for the 3.xx kernel, so that it would work on slims. It will NOT work from the GAME150 folder of a phat. If it doesn't work from GAME folder as well on a phat, set the recovery menu kernel setting to 3.xx kernel. Select the option to backup the EEPROM. (This is not quite necessary, but go ahead with it if you'd like to keep your battery's original serial number.) If the app quits afterwards, start it again. Select the option to convert the battery to Service Mode. Congratulations. You are now in possession of a Pandora's Battery. NOTE : If you turn off the PSP now, you won't be able to turn it back on with this battery. You will need another battery to turn it on. If you don't have another battery, take out this battery and plug in the AC adapter. Now turn on the PSP. Creating the Despertar del Cementerio Memory Stick using a CFW installed PSP : Items required :
Rename the update EBOOTs to 340.PBP, 380.PBP and 150.PBP respectively and copy them to the Memory Stick root. Open the despertar_cementerio4.rar archive. Copy the folder despertar_cementerio to MemoryStick:/PSP/GAME folder. Now run the DCv4 installer. It should place the folders kd and registry and the file msipl.bin in the MS. Once it is done, you can safely delete 340.PBP and 150.PBP. NOTE : 380.PBP MUST remain. Next, open up the timemachine_0.1.rar archive. Copy the TIMEMACHINE folder to MemoryStick:/PSP/GAME folder. Run the Time Machine installer and select install IPLloader to MS. Once it's done, select Convert pandora IPL to Time Machine format. Then, quit the app. This should place the folder TM in your Memory Stick. Bravo! Now you have a Despertar del Cementerio Memory Stick in your hands. Installing CFW (Yay! Turn off PSP completely. Insert the DCv4 Memory Stick. Now hold UP on the D-Pad and insert the Pandora's Battery. Keep holding the UP button until the PSP boots into the Pandora menu. [NOTE : This Pandora's Battery can be anything. It doesn't have to be actually made by the above method. You can even use a Pandora's Battery that you had before or even bought from somewhere. All Pandora's Batteries are the same.] Now press X to install 3.80 M33-5. BINGO! Note on PSN games : quote Dark_AleXHave fun! Just tell me if any of the links are not functioning. ~StarJet This message was edited by StarJet on Mar 30 2008. Guide to converting a Pandora's Battery back to a normal one.
Take off battery. Connect AC adapter and turn on PSP. Now insert Pandora's battery while PSP is on. Run the Pandora's battery tool from the DCv4 MS. If you backed up the EEPROM first, select the option to restore it. Otherwise, select the option to convert battery to Normal Mode. Done. "MS Creation by PC" guide (Use this method if you can't find a PSP with CFW. Note that you'll have to buy a Pandora's Battery or use an existing one, as the Battery cannot be created with the PC.) Items needed :
NOTE : The MS will be formatted during this process unlike creating the MS with CFW. Be sure to backup all your files before continuing. Open the Pandora_IPL.rar archive and extract all 3 files to the root of your drive C:\. (Any path can be used, but to avoid unnecessary difficulties, we'll use C:\. Connect Memory Stick to PC. (Use a PSP or Memory Stick reader. Even a Sony Ericsson phone would do.) Now open the command prompt. (Start -> Run -> CMD.EXE -> OK.) Now type C:\mspformat.exe <drive letter of the Memory Stick> and press Enter. (Example : If your MS drive is L:\, then enter C:\mspformat.exe L) At the warning, type Y and press Enter. You should get a message like "Drive formatted. Partition moved." Now type C:\msinst.exe <drive letter of the Memory Stick> C:\msipl.bin and press Enter. (Example : If your MS drive is L:\, then enter C:\msinst.exe L C:\msipl.bin) You should get a message asking whether to write the IPL. Type Y and press Enter. You should see the "WRITE MS BOOT CODE" message. Now disconnect USB and take out the MS from PSP or other device. Then reinsert it and reconnect USB. Next, open the DCv4_PSP.rar archive. Copy the folders in it to the root of your MS. Rename the 3.80 EBOOT to 380.PBP and copy that to the MS root as well. Done. Installing CFW : To install CFW, follow the steps in the previous post. But if you use this method to create the MS, it is unnecessary to hold the UP button while inserting the battery. Just insert MS and then the battery, and you're done. NOTE : When you install CFW using DCv4, the settings of the PSP that used to create the MS will also come to your PSP. If you use the creating MS with PC method, the settings of my PSP will come to your PSP. Restore default settings from the PSP menu to settle everything. ~StarJet This message was edited by StarJet on Mar 29 2008. ------------------- Like CC:FFVII? I have an original Phat battery but I have upgraded to 3.80 Official Firmware a while ago. I want to downgrade using the Pandora Battery via my friend but he says it requires a 1 GB memory stick. Is that true because I only have a 512 MB.

quote The_DonNo, you don't need a 1GB. Even a 256MB should be enough, but I dunno whether 256 PRO Duos exist. It has to be a PRO Duo or it wouldn't work. ~StarJet ------------------- Like CC:FFVII? Come visit us at the Crisis Core FFVII forum!

Alright, I have a Memory Stick PRO Duo 512 MB so could you or someone post a link to downgrading the firmware using Pandora's Battery? Thanks.
Edit: Would I have to format my memory stick also? ------------------- ![]()

quote The_DonYour friend has CFW enabled PSP, right? Go ahead with the method that's already here. I'll be working on the PC method anyway, but that method requires you to format the MS. So, anyone who can find a CFW PSP should do it this way. ~StarJet ------------------- Like CC:FFVII? Come visit us at the Crisis Core FFVII forum!

I'm a little confused here. The top part of the method doesn't say anything about using an already existing Pandora Battery.

quote The_DonAh, the Pandora's Battery can be anything. You just make the MS and insert that and ANY Pandora's Battery. But keep in mind that if you use the Non-Formatting method above, you should hold the UP button while inserting the battery. ~StarJet ------------------- Like CC:FFVII? I'm unclear as of what the already existing Pandora Battery does. Is it possible to create a brand new battery with this method?

quote The_DonYes it is possible. But if you have an existing Pandora's Battery, you can create an MS and then install CFW with those two. ~StarJet ------------------- Like CC:FFVII? Come visit us at the Crisis Core FFVII forum!

So by creating the battery from scratch, there's no usage of the MS?
