	Log in to remove this sponsored message Pretty sure Toronto might be a front-runner in the East now. By far the best time to strike, when Boston's somewhat retooling and the Yankees are pretty old. Cano being their youngest everyday player at 30. Then throw on A-Rod's out half the year, Jeter's not as reliable, and that rotation having issues still. Can never count Tampa out, ever, and the Orioles are a team that can finish anywhere from first to last. This might be a pretty unpredictable division like last year, even moreso with Toronto's activity this off-season. A rotation of Josh Johnson, RA Dickey, Mark Buehrle, Brendan Morrow, and Ricky Romero as a #5 with a slew of others able to step in. Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, Colby Rasmus, Jose Reyes, Emilio Bonifacio, Brett Lawrie, and Adam Lind. That's not stuff to mess with, if everything they've done in their career stays as-is. 	I don't know that one offhand Demonfurby because I got home from work about a half-hour prior to this post going up, and the trade has yet to be finalized. However, Sources indicate that Minor League Pitcher Stolmy Pimentel and first baseman/outfielder Jerry Sands. Other sources have also stated that Mark Melancon could be included in the trade as well. It would be interesting to see how this trade would work for the Pirates, but the signing of Francisco Liriano should be a helpful signing for the Pirates. At two years for $14 Million, they made a good deal there. I do know this: the Red Sox brass dropped the ball with Cody Ross and took for granted that he would sign with the team for whatever dollar amount they wanted. Instead, the Arizona Diamondbacks give him a more reasonable offer of $26 Million over a three-year deal, and that's all she wrote--Cody Ross is off to the Diamondbacks. It's not even all of Nutting's fault anymore. Never heard of either of them to be honest. I like the trade though. Its low risk all the way through. And sucks about Cody Ross. I liked him too Lesley. He reminded me of the type of players the Sox had on their 04 team. Mueller, Bellhorn, Nixon, etc. He was never gonna light up the stat sheet but he was super reliable. It doesn't make sense that Victorino was offered a $13/m a year contract while it appears Ross wasn't even considered when he put up better numbers and would have been cheaper. 	The aforementioned trade is a done-deal: the Red Sox have acquired Closer Joel Hanrahan and infielder Brock Holt from the Pirates in exchange for Pitchers Mark Melancon & Stolmy Pimentel, along with infielder Ivan De Jesus and outfielder/first baseman Jerry Sands. Furthermore, to eliminate any potential controversy, Andrew Bailey has been named the late inning setup pitcher with Hanrahan named the closer for the upcoming season. Side note: while Joel Hanrahan has never pitched a ballgame at Fenway Park (he's going to get familiar with it real soon), his wife is originally from Brockton, Massachusetts. The only time he was there prior: a family wedding. That's why I hate the 75% voting requirement with a passion--the number is too high and leaves the possibility of years like this, when you get a ballot stacked with a lot of great players and nobody gets in, not even the players like the aforementioned Biggio and Morris, along with Jeff Bagwell, Curt Schilling and Mike Piazza. Plus, I've also heard whispers of ballots that were sent in blank. Why those votes were counted as votes is beyond me, but the fact that they were counted is bullshit--they should have counted as a writer abstaining from the voting. ------------------- Proving the misperceptions of Asperger's Syndrome wrong to people since 1985, and will continue to do so as long as I live. EDIT: A double dose of sad news today, as former manager of the Baltimore Orioles and Hall of Famer Earl Weaver has died at the age of 82. He was on a Caribbean cruise in association with the Orioles at the time of his death; the cause of death has yet to be determined. Earl Weaver led the Baltimore Orioles to four different appearances in the World Series during 17 Years in Baltimore, winning the World Series in 1970. He also won Manager of the Year three times. Hall of Famer Stan Musial also passed away today at the age of 92. During his 22 year career, all of which with the Saint Louis Cardinals, Stan "The Man" Musial won seven batting titles, three MVP Awards and was a major part of three World Series Championship teams in the 1940's. He played a grand total of 3,026 games with the Cardinals--only Carl Yastrzemski played more with one team [3,308 with the Red Sox]. Rest in Peace to both men, who both had great careers. 	A sign of spring for those of us in cold-weather locations: pitchers and catchers reporting for spring training. The camps for all 30 teams open up this week, with position players scheduled to report sooner. 	It is still fresh in my mind how things went in recent times for the Red Sox: an injury-plagued 2010 season, an epic failure at the end of the 2011 season, and an abysmally horrendous 2012 season. After the 2011 season, the Red Sox began to overhaul their medical staff. That overhaul is complete. First, medical director Thomas Gill was removed after the 2011 season. The next major move was after the 2012 season, which saw Mike Reinold's dismissal. He was the team's physical therapist, but there was an amount of controversy during his tenure as the team's PT. Thomas Gill had been fired at one point by then-GM Theo Epstein, only to be overruled by John Henry. A full summary of all the changes can be found here; these changes were made in an attempt to cut back on the number of injuries and the number of players on the Disabled List. Also disturbing: these rumors I've heard of doctors injecting players with Toradol, an anti-inflammatory. While Toradol is legal to use in MLB, a side-effect from Toradol is what put Clay Buchholz on the DL: esophagitis. Jonathan Papelbon brought it up last week, and as a result, the Red Sox are reviewing their policies regarding the drug.
