Here in the UK nobody plays volleyball, not even in schools for the most part and this is the first time I've actually sat down to watch and bloody hell what a sport I'm loving this.

Oh, handball has also grabbed my attention. I'm going to find a team after this Olympics and start working my way towards the GB team I think haha

I haven't had a chance to catch the men's of either y'know. I was curious to see the men's handball because I was thinking that maybe the goalkeeper would be a bit braver, smarter and not be at what I feel is an unfair disadvantage (not that there's much you can do).

USA Volleyball team were playing really well in one of the games I watched, vs Korea I think. The black woman who wears the glasses was smashing those spikes in (even got my terminology perfected )


what other sports have caught your attention Fatal Error? Gymnastics was thrilling yesterday - I always enjoy watching that.

Fair enough, I suppose - the quality of the gymnasts is undeniable though...incredible to watch I must say.

talking of badminton - what a disgrace ^ I don't understand why neither of them wanted to win though?

And Michael Phelps has clinched the record for most career Olympic medals with 19, winning the Silver in the 200m Butterfly event before winning the Gold in the 4x200m Freestyle Relay.

Of those 19 medals that Phelps has won over the years at the Olympics, 15 are Gold Medals, with two Silver and two Bronze making up the other four Medals. Absolutely incredible to win that many medals in an Olympic career.

Definitely a huge win, but like the last time it happened, the Russians slipped up enough for the US to take the top spot. I felt so bad after the floor routines of the Russians, especially the last girl (Anastasia something), because she and her teammates and coaches were hugging, trying to hold back the tears but obviously extremely disappointed and sad, while the media were about two feet away snapping a bunch of pictures. It really makes you remember the young age of these athletes (the Russian team is made up of four people 17 and under, with the fifth member being 20), and the responsibility they have to represent their country. If I was a father of one of them I'd be juiced at those people swarming my daughter and trying to capture the sadness on her face. Mad respect to them for keeping their composure and not breaking down all of the way through the US performances and medal ceremony.

Oh, and congrats to Phelps for becoming the most decorated Olympian of all time. Hope he does well in his coming events and completely smashes the record.
