It is. Three other Defending Champions didn't even make the postseason; this is the first Defending Champion to be swept in the opening round.

On another note, how about 2 years in a row where the defending champ was swept in a series? Lakers by the Mavs last year, and Mavs by the Thunder this year.

That has to be a first in its own right. I don't think I've ever heard of defending champions getting swept in any round in back-to-back years.

EDIT: Every once in a while I get my facts messed up. Dallas getting swept by the Thunder was not the first time that a Defending Champion failed to win a playoff game the following season. The Miami Heat were swept by the Bulls in the opening round of the 2006-2007 Playoffs, which was the season after their NBA Championship win.

It could have easily been 3-1 Dallas right now, pretty admirable considering Cuban tore the team down for 2012 free agency. It's too bad they weren't given a fair chance to defend their title aka kept Chandler. Dirk, Marion, and Beaubois could easily be the only rotation players back with the team next year, they have a ton of money expiring this year and Haywood's obviously getting amnestied.

D-Will and Dirk would be a nice combination but with the entire team getting nuked and rebooted, they would probably need a year just to gel and Dirk doesn't have many years to waste now.

No sweep!

Got away with one there though, going 2 for 5 at the line in the last few seconds was gonna cost them i thought.

Good to finally see the Celtics play a complete game and play like they should have all along. Pierce flat out balled tonight and of course Rondo being Rondo. Hopefully, we can win in Atlanta on Tuesday and get some rest before the second round to what it looks like it will be against Philly.

The Heat threw that one away with poor free throw shooting..and still had a chance to win it. The game devolved into a messy firefight. It's all over in Miami on Wednesday. I'm also surprised seeing Chicago down 3-1! wow!

I was at the Celtics Hawks game in person earlier,and what a great game with them shooting lights out.

Even though the Hawks got killed tonight, I thought Al Horford looked amazing, especially for not playing in a game since mid-January! His passing and his driving dunks were great to watch, and he's definitely one of the best centers in the league. If he can build off his come back performance and get some help from Johnson or Teague, it could still be a long series.

I really hope Horford has a better, more complete season next year. I think if he hadn't had that injury, Atlanta could have possibly been the 3 seed instead of Indiana.
