Team/Athlete of the Week |
|
Yes, it is back! The Team/Athlete of the Week has made it's return. Each pick will go up every Mon for all games from Mon-Sun the previous week.
Okay, I think it would be in the best interests if set up a group of people to decide on who deserves to win. Maybe a group of 5 some odd people who have a good general knowledge on sports. If your interested, drop a PM to me. ------------------- Bleedin' blue and white

Are we just doing a single nomination for each?
TOTW: Oakland Raiders AOTW: Tom Brady

The Ghana U-20 Soccer Team should make TOTW since they not only just won the U-20 Soccer World Cup, but they're also the first ever African team to win a major FIFA event, and to do it on African soil no less. It's a huge deal worldwide, way bigger than what the Raiders or Brady did.
And this is why I have locked up a committee spot. ------------------- ![]()

But it's soccer! No one cares about soccer.
....on a more serious note, I'd like to nominate Drew Brees over Tom Brady. Yeah Brady had a record-breaking game and yeah Brady raped face all in one quarter but it was against the Titans who virtually have no secondary. Drew Brees racked up 48 points against the #1 defense at the time. And he's done it consistently throughout the season. And TOTW should go to Jaguars for our amazing come from behind victory against the Rams in overtime! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Edit: This was last week so it may not even count but I think the Chicago Blackhawks deserve some mention. They were losing 1-5 after the first period and rallied back and won the game 6-5 for the biggest comeback in NHL history. ------------------- ![]()

DMD only really cares about soccer when the Italian bandwagon roles by every 4 or so years, and then only if Italy is playing well. Calling the World Champs shit just shows how much of a crapshoot his claim to "care" about soccer is.
But these responses are exactly why any committee needs people from other countries and not just Americans. Since real feats get passed over when some forgetful event occurs in the US all the time. Or not even a committee. GS just made judgment calls, Dorknet can probably do the same thing. I also support Jenson Button for AOTW since he just won his first Formula 1 championship. ------------------- ![]()

My problem is that if it were up to you, we'd never have any MLB/NFL/NBA teams as the "TOTW" because you'd just pull some obscure team out of your ass and claim they are more deserving than the "mainstream" clubs.
Not saying Ghana or the World Cup are obscure, but my point is still relevant. quote Irish Gamer

It should be Brady for AOTW. 29/34, 380 yards, 6 TD passes. Not really sure what can compete with that.
And I think its better to have either AOTW or TOTW not both. Thats how it always was before anyway but its your call.

Not fussed on team of the week, but Athlete of the week should definitely be Jenson Button, who has just won the F1 world championship.
Don't think association football players or teams should ever need to be involved in these nominations TBH - there's a separate Football forum after all.

re: Team/Athlete of the Week |
quote DragonMaster DyneNah I get your point, I would only bring up a "soccer" team in situations like this week where Ghana have made history, or if TOTW was still going in May last year when Barcelona won the domestic league, domestic Cup and European Cup. I'd take a backseat on nominating anything for NFL because even though I follow it I wouldn't have a clue about it compared to folk here. I disagree TVI, sure if we had a similar thing of TOTW or something in the footie forum I would agree but in special cases like Ghana I think it's a valid nomination - I mean I wouldn't nominate Sunderland for beating Liverpool at the weekend or something. I remember United got TOTW in here when they won the Champions League in 08, but tis up to Darknet really, I'm not that fussed. -------------------
