NCAA Football (2009 Season)

The Saturday fall ritual is about upon us-college football season is again fast approaching. Today the first USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll came out, and perhaps not surprisingly defending national champion Florida is #1. Texas, Oklahoma, USC & Alabama round out the top 5. The first AP Poll is out on August 22. Teams have started fall practices over the last day or two, with the first games of the season scheduled for September 3.

re: NCAA Football (2009 Season)

WTF? How did Ohio State get voted 6th.... I'm a Buckeye fan and don't think they're even top-10 worthy. Yeah, they surprised a lot of people at the Fiesta Bowl, but with most of the defensive stars gone, as well as the leading receivers AND Beanie... I just don't see how they could be voted 6th.

Although, Pryor is a *bleep*in G, so that's probly why.

These are the 59 or so coaches voting that make up the poll, and they don't always agree with the media as we'll probably see in a couple weeks with the AP Poll.

If Florida and USC don't play for the title this year, it will either be because those teams didn't live up to their potential or the BCS commits another travesty, or a combination of both.

Those two programs are head and shoulders above everyone else this year. BYU's my sleeper because their strength of schedule is pitiful (with the exception of Utah and Oklahoma, who they get to play at home). They might find their way into a BCS game and surprise some people like Utah last year.

Going to be a VERY exciting Heisman Trophy race this year with Tebow, Bradford, and McCoy all returning and also the big play potential of Jahvis Best out of California.

Cal at a cool #12!
I think we can have a good year with Riley finally getting some needed experience. I hope Best can continue do what he did last year. SC isn't as strong as before, so I'm confident but we still need to show up when playing against SC

They're my pick to win the Big 12 North this year (I know...BFD, but it means a lot coming from a KU fan). I wouldn't be surprised to see Nebraska in the top 20 at the end of the year.

Trendy, I respect the Jayhawks, so don't take offense to this.

But I'm pretty sure if Kansas plays Maryland in a bowl game, that stadium will sink at least 5 feet in elevation due to the combined weight of Ralph Friedgen and Mark Mangino's presence on the field. And you know I don't mean coaching prowess.

Ha! No offense taken, I love a good Mangino weight joke. Can't deny the guy has turned the program around, though. I don't care if he does crush two dozen Krispy Kremes before practice.

re: NCAA Football (2009 Season)

Are there any decent games in week one? I haven't taken a look at the schedule yet, but if it's a bunch of Central Northern Louisiana Bayou University vs. USC games, I'll just go ahead and take a pass.
