Looks like Delgado is staying with the Mets for 09...
Pettitte wants to come back to the Yankees. Carl Pavano and Jason Giambi got the boot, freeing up over 30 million between the two of them. Of course Teixeira and Manny are rumored to be bound for the Yankees but after missing the postseason for the first time in forever the Yankees are going to spend like 15 billion on payroll this year. ------------------- 1994 Oldsmobile Bravada - Slow

I'm guessing that if they were to pursue Sabathia, which of course can't be ruled out, they'd probably need to offer $120 million at the very least over 5-6 years. This based on reports I read yesterday that the Brewers offered him $100 million over 5 years. Manny, or at least Boras, will probably demand A-Rod money after the numbers Manny put up post-trade.

Fact, Yankees can offer more money than any other team. If Sabathia (and Manny, Teixiera, Peavy, etc etc) only see dollar signs and not location or whatever then the Yankees will own the sickest team ever. Money is nothing to the Steinbrenners, they aren't billionaires for no reason.

Not me, I kinda liked Giambi. No doubt he put up good power numbers (34hr/96rbi or something) but his average and walks were down this year. He is a good player though, just had a bad year. Oh well, we can get much better players for the money.

Well he obviously wasn't bad I just didn't like him. He always seemed to either hit a homerun or just strike out. Regardless, the money can be better spent on someone else.

It's Award Season time! Today the NL Gold Gloves were handed out:
C: Yadier Molina 1B: Adrian Gonzalez 2B: Brandon Phillips 3B: David Wright SS: Jimmy Rollins OF: Nate McLouth OF: Carlos Beltran OF: Shane Victorino P: Greg Maddux-18th in 19 years, and likely his last. Retiring. AL winners tomorrow. Other award winners so far: Pepsi MLB Clutch Performer: CC Sabathia DHL Delivery Man: Brad Lidge Hank Aaron Award: Kevin Youkilis (AL) and Aramis Ramirez (NL) Roberto Clemente Award: Albert Pujols Comeback Players: Cliff Lee (AL) and Lidge (NL) The major individual awards (ROY, Cy Young, Manager, MVP) will be handed out next week. Edit: Dodgers have made Manny an offer. Terms not released but according to their GM it would make Manny, in terms of average yearly salary, the 2nd-highest paid player in baseball behind A-Rod. Considering the current #2, Johan Santana, currently gets $22.9 million per year, that means we're talking somewhere between $23-27 million. Now it'll probably depend on contract length-Boras wants a lengthy one so it could be one that has Manny retire a Dodger (he's 36). We'll see. Here are the AL Gold Glove winners: C-Joe Mauer 1B-Carlos Pena 2B-Dustin Pedroia 3B-Adrian Beltre SS-Michael Young OF-Torii Hunter OF-Grady Sizemore OF-Ichiro P-Mike Mussina This message was edited by DCRage on Nov 06 2008. -------------------

The 2008 Rookies Of The Year were just announced, and they probably won't surprise anyone: Geovany Soto (NL) and Evan Longoria (AL). Longoria was a unanimous choice (all 28 votes) while Soto got all but 1 of the 32 votes. That 1 other vote went to Joey Votto.
Edit: And the first major name to be traded this offseason is...Matt Holliday. Details haven't been revealed as to who's in this package deal but we do know who the winner is that gets him: Oakland. ESPN reports the A's will probably be giving up, among others, Carlos Gonzales and one notable name-Huston Street. And the predicted Fish Firesale is on in Florida. First to go-Josh Willingham and Scott Olsen. Traded to Washington for Emilio Bonifacio and 2 minor leaguers. Obituary-former Indians pitcher and broadcaster Herb Score died earlier today (Tuesday). He was 75. He pitched 5 years for Cleveland and could've pitched more had it not been for a tragic incident during a game in 1957. Article And the NL Cy Young Award goes to...Tim Lincecum. Brandon Webb was 2nd followed by Johan Santana, Brad Lidge, and CC Sabathia (who got 1 1st-place vote). Florida P Henry Owens, who hasn't been in the majors since June '07 due to injuries, won't be up again for a while longer. Positive test for performance-enhancing drugs, his first such test which means suspended 50 games. This message was edited by DCRage on Nov 12 2008. -------------------

The Managers Of The Year were just named: No surprise in the AL-Tampa Bay's Joe Maddon is the winner, and deservedly so. Mild surprise in the NL because it's not favorite Charlie Manuel...it's Skipper Lou. Piniella wins his 3rd overall and first in the NL despite The Curse re-emerging in the playoffs.

Yes! *bleep*ing yes!
I'm so happy that Lincecum was able to win the Cy Young. Forget who I was debating with (maybe you, DC) a while back, but I kept saying how much more deserving he was than Brandon Webb. Thank God. -------------------

I don't even like the Phillies but Manuel got screwed there. The guy coached a game the day his mother died and led his team to the World Series, for *bleep*s sake. What more do they want?
Yeah, Lou definitely deserves it for leading one of the biggest payrolls in the MLB to a choke-performance in the palyoffs for the second year in a row. I'm guessing Wade Phillips is in the driver's seat for Coach of the Year in the NFL right now. -------------------

re: MLB Offseason |

Probably was me, I wanted Tim to win the Cy Young even though he played on a worse team, which I thought might've worked against him more compared to Webb. I read that his reaction when he got the call about winning was "Whoo hoo!" Refreshing. As for managers they probably gave more weight to the regular season performances of their teams, not the postseason. Still, even if Tampa didn't make the WS Maddon NOT winning would've been a huge upset.
As for NFL, I want Jim Zorn to win but right now here's who will win if thigns keep going the way they are: Jeff Fisher. Edit: Surprised to read that Maddon's win was not unanimous. The 1 vote he didn't get went to Minnesota's Ron Gardenhire. This message was edited by DCRage on Nov 12 2008. -------------------

Come the *bleep* on. *bleep* Lou Pinella. That is the biggest piece of shit I've seen in a while. Jesus Christ, Joe Torre and Manuel deserved it more. MLB still being political for the Cubs to the bitter end.

No, it's because the postseason means nothing in voting. The vote is done at the end of the regular season.
As for today, the AL Cy Young Award was just given out, and it capped off an absolut-Lee incredible comeback year for the winner...Cliff Lee, of course. Lee got 24 of the 28 1st-place votes. Roy Halladay, who got the other 4, was a distant 2nd. Still to come later today: The Silver Slugger Awards. This message was edited by DCRage on Nov 13 2008. -------------------
