What am I doing wrong?

Ok, I like the game, but I seem to spend more time running away than exploring and solving puzzles. Sometimes I spend 10-15 minutes running, get to a hiding spot and the pursuer (currently Daniella) finds me or leaves but then comes right back and I spend more time running. Sometimes I go into panic mode and then bump into her and then die.

It's rather frustrating. I like that you can't fight and that you have to run away, as opposed to most games, but I feel like 75% percent of the game is me running away and it's making me take forever to finish the game and getting somewhat frustrating.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here. Any ideas? Tips/tricks? I've tried kicking them but they usually hit me first. Hewie can bite them but they usually smack him and keep running at me. Defense items seem to kinda work, but I run out of them.

I think I'm pretty decent at video games and survival horror games specifically, but WTF am I doing wrong on this game?

re: What am I doing wrong?

I can play through the game without getting a stalker chase (except for when they're supposed to come). I guess it just depends on how long you take doing things. They are going to eventually find you if you're in the same spot for a long time.

The only thing you can really do is fight them if they keep finding you in your hiding spot. Daniella is pretty easy to knock out, just make Hewie charge until he growls, and have him attack. It's best to get her from behind, he might knock her out in one attack. After that, just run far from her.

When hiding, just stay until her music stops, then get out and run the other way, far from her again.

There's some things you should avoid doing if you don't want Daniella coming after you (don't open the curtains in the bathtub room, don't look in the wardrobe in the fireplace room), and no matter what you do she'll come in the mandragora room, so it's best to start running right after you pick it.

re: What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the reply. I recently got through with the Daniella section and I'm running from Ricardo, but he's not nearly as hard to escape from my experience, even though the walkthrough I'm reading says he's the hardest. Daniella was the hardest for me.

I haven't had that hard of a time evading pursuers since I made this post, so maybe I was just having bad luck?

re: What am I doing wrong?

Heh, Riccardo's usually the hardest for me, mostly because he's fast and I end up getting shot in the head a lot. xD

Could have been bad luck, I sometimes manage to run into the stalkers a lot.

re: What am I doing wrong?

I just finished the game the other day. Ricardo was probably the easiest for me, for some reason. I don't think he actually hit me with his gun once, though he hit poor Hewie a few times. Daniella was definately the hardest to evade for me. After I got toward the end of her section, I kind of breezed through the rest of the game.

I guess it was just bad luck. It seemed like every time I evaded her and started to remember where I was trying to get to next, on the way, I'd run into her again and have to start all over again.

I just started Rule of Rose last night. It should be a nice change of pace. At least in it, I don't have to run constantly, though I've heard the combat isn't the greatest.

re: What am I doing wrong?

Glad you finished it. =D

Rule of Rose is a great game, but yeah, the combat can be a problem. It's best to run all the time, unless you have to fight of course.
