In my opinion, Monk is better than Warrior if trained properly. Without weapons, it's hitting the most damage in my party. It dealt the first 1k damage, 2k, 3k, etc. Yes, it competes with black mage. Better defense and more hp.

Change your Warrior into a Dragoon if you want. It's just me but I prefer a high job level thief > new dragoon.

IMO i think monk is like the worst ever they cant even wear armor and only used knuckles!!??

well a bit later in the game ull find good armor for monks/black belts ...my black belt uses a fuma garb a ribbon and a protect ring

Vikings are initally better. I never said anything about using one in the long run, and as for monks, mine has the highest attack in my party. They're much better without equipment.
Here's how my current party's armed (at molton cave).
Warrior: Viking Axe + Tyrfing (Attack 61)
Red Mage: Salamand Sword + Freezing Blade (62)
Theif: Spark Dagger X 2 (46)
Monk: Unarmed (88)

It's not exactly the best party, but you get my point.
