Jet-powered ships? |
|
Just got the game. Is it me or are the ships way too fast. My sloop can run rings around frigates and sink them at will. I looked in options and couldn't find any way to adjust the realism of the ship's sailing qualities.

Sloops are a lot faster, but you get more firepower with the slower ships

i found out that the frigate class ships are the fastest and deliver the heaviest payloads. 32 or 40 cannons at a time. but this power should be used carefuly... more then once i accidently drowned treasure ships with one to many cannon balls...
to compare it to mechwarrior, the frigate is a Mad Cat MKII, while the Flag galleon is an Atlas. sloops are more like the vultures... also, if add a galleon to your fleet, you are only as slow as the galleon, and that's a nightmare against the wind.

Truthfully, the best balanced ship in the game is the Ship of the Line (labeled as new class) at full capacity it can hold 400 men, 40 guns (I think, not sure) and can go around 20 knots. Can hold a crap load. Though still I use an Indian War Canoe all the time. I love that ship, it's the fastest one in the game, I've gotten it to go 31 knots in a storm.
Oh yeah if you need anymore info on the SOTL and how to get it, I would suggest going to gamefaqs or something.

The Sloop-of-War is probably the best balanced ship, the canoe is also fun to play with. Speed rules all the way, Nothing can stop it.

I know from experience that these ships are fast(except for the Galleons, fast Galleon included). But the best in terms of speed, firepwer, capacity and cargo is the Royal Sloop. The SOTL may have the capacity for 400 men,but it's a

I usually just use a pinnace class ship, usually a fleet of 4 Indian War Canoes.

I always do the hardest one. Ships are more realistic. I'm number 1 on that pirate kings list.
